HELP, I have a 97SE Auto that I just purcahsed, Luckily the powertrain is still covered. However, I am noticing a squek in the driver side rear wheel when in reverse only. Please Help with Diagnoses, i hate to think its a bad Rotor already...But the squel has the distinct high pitched whine similiar to the one i had when i owned my Sentra and it needed brake work

The likely causes of this squeak are a bad wheel bearing or trouble with the brake. Jack that wheel and spin it. A bad bearing will make small grinding or grumbling sounds. A brake problem will make a scraping or squeaking. Pull the wheel and inspect the brake pads. Your problem may be nothing more than worn-out pads. This diagnostic inspection will take only five minutes.

You said "the powertrain is still covered." I don't believe brakes are considered part of the powertrain.

thanks

for the friendly advice. yup i know brakes aren't covered under the powertrain, i guess i was just giving myself piece of mind if anything in the future happens within what is covered under the 60k warranty, i still have about 13k left. If it is a bearing situation am I looking at a costly repair?

No. My guess is the problem is worn-out brakes. That's not expensive either. Either way, expect to pay somewhere around $100. This repair does not have to be done by a dealer.
