<<Knocks on wood.

I just got my max last week. Better question, What's the best I can so that it doesn't get stolen or broken into. I've heard of an ignition kill switch.

/me knocks on woodpile

My car's never been broken into although it's only got the factory alarm. I too would be interested to know what's the best way to prevent theft of my baby so I'll head down to the electronics forum.

get a low-jack system. it cuts power to the battery if the car is broken into and it has a tracer on it, so if its stolen, u can find it

from my what i hear the factor alarm on a max isnt all that. it will only go off when something like a window gets broken and no time before.
you would need something with shock sensors

HAHAHAHAH.... no the factory alarm doesnt go off when a window is broken... hell you could arm the factory alarm, and roll the car off a cliff and the alarm still wouldnt go off. Well... unless one of the doors/tunk opened...

Had my window smashed one time(I know im not in Jersey) but the alarm didnt go off... found out the hard way =/ Still havent gotten the window re-tinted and its been about a year.

the low-jack is complete bull*sh. My boys pathfinder got stolen the other day and they couldn't even activate it. i actually found the car before the police did, 4 hours later...but the sad part was that everything was gone. At least it wasnt burnt.

yeah the factory alarm system doesn't even cover the rear doors. you can break it and unlock the back doors and it still won't go off. how lame is that

Like Big D said: taking out the fuel pump fuse is an awesome way to keep the car from being stolen. I take out mine whenever I have to park the car in a bad place.

Another good and pretty cheap way (about $30) to prevent the car from being stolen is to get one of those battery kill keys/switches and put it on the hot lead from the battery to the starter and hide it under the hood somewhere. This way they would have to wheel the damn car onto a truck to steal it.

As far as the starter kills on aftermarket alarms go, most shops wont hide the starter kill very well, making it is pretty easy to disable. Obviously aftermarket alarms are a much better deturent than the stock alarm though.

The most absolute best way to keep your max from being stolen is as follows, you have to have a yard though.

1)Park Maxima in yard
2)Lock fence
3)Put beware of dog sign on fence
4)Allow Rottweilers to run freely within yard
5)Regularly clean out 12 gauge shotgun in yard and even dry fire to ensure proper functioning and for nosey neighbors to understand that you take no crapola

Seriously though, nothing will stop a determined thief, all you can do is deter. I would say dont be all showing off and then going directly home (they will follow you). Try to remove as much electronics as possible EVERYtime you park. Park in well lit areas.

not yet and hopfully never. i agree that factory alarm is a p.o.s. i can rock my car, tap it, ect. and it dont go off, but if i reach into the door when the windows are down and unlock it that way, it goes off when i open the door.

People who show off their cars always get their cars stolen. It's a part of life. I mean, if you go to a Maxima.org meet, that's one thing, but if you go to the beach every Sunday night and show off your car to all of the shady ***** there, yeah, it's gonna get stolen or broken into.

With my Accord, I had enough performance stuff done to it, and I spent enough on my stereo to make it sound amazing, but good amps are expensive... I NEVER locked my car. It's part of keeping it low key.

The Max on the other hand, it'll be garage kept, and always locked. Safety and keeping it low key are the ways to make it secure.

I bought a Clifford Intelliguard, build a speaker box/amp rack in the trunk with a wall in front of it and a lock, and disconnected the trunk pop switch on the front door.

That trunk pop switch is stupid - I can't believe it works with the car off. Maybe one could wire it into the ACC so it only works with the keys in the ignition.

But I've never bothered - the remote works fine for popping the trunk.

I had a 98.5 Max SE and I came home from class, parked her right in front of my house. My boy came over to chill and parked his car right behind mine. My sister came home no more then 15 min after my boy. She asked if i was home cause my car wasnt there. Everyone is right about the factory alarm. It sucks B***s! A cop found her the next day in Brooklyn on the damn sidewalk. If they want the car they will steal it. It was stripped and there were 2 tickets on it for improper parking. THE DAMN THING WAS STOLEN! and there putting tickets on it. Anyway, that happened in October and finally just the other day i got another one.
i have learned that there really is no way to stop a low life thief. In 15 min max mine was gone. The only thing that would be nice is that if it were to happen again, pray that you will see them doing it and make sure that they wont be able to do it again and set an example to others that may see the missing parts.

The best kill switch idea....wire a relay to your cigarette lighter and connect to starter wire. The car will only start if the lighter is depressed. You can add another one by connecting it to the amp turn-on wire coming off the stereo. That way, you will have to put the face plate on, AND push the lighter in to start the car. Genius, if you ask me.

Craig B., the electronics guru from 3rd gen forums has the write-up on lighter switch at www.geocities.com/craigbrace . All kudos to him!

Funny thing about my car, not alot of people can start my car. My car have trouble starting ever since I got my car a year ago. I've lended my car to my buddy and he kept complaining about not able to started it. Last time it took him 15 min. to get it goining. I have taken my cars to dearlers, parking lots, repair shops, etc.. and no one can start it. They asked me if i have a kill switch. I said nope. They asked me how I started it and I did it right infront of them. I have no plans of fixing this problem. (^_^)

I have the same problem. With mine, you have to have the hole on the key facing up and twist it *just right* or it won't start.

None of my friends can start my car lol.

Pretty sure you can still hotwire it though. <_< Need to redo the ignition system and hide the starter button somewhere absurd. Fortunately, my max isn't worth crap so I don't have to worry about this right now.

Never stolen (knock wood), factory alarm, plus i got that bad rear window, you know the one with the broken motor, so with just a little push it comes down. I've never worried much either, and no i dont live in Mayberry (far from it in fact).

Mine was stolen once in 98... when I saw my car wasn't were I parked it my heart dropped. They left the whole window on the floor right to it was the club I had on the steering wheel . I was going to get rid of the car when they found it in Newark 3 days later but all they took was my rims, stillen intake and stock radio. The car had a little body damage and was in good shape so I decided to keep it. In turn my insurance covered everything rims, radio and new paint job oh and body kit (stillen) When I got the car back I was in love again. Now I have a clifford 50.5x and many other goodies to only deter thiefs. 8 years now and has done the job well.
