Break smell

how long does it take for the new brakes to loose their smell. What i mean is, like when u install new breaks they have to wear in and they stink like CRAZY...how long does it take for that do go away? (under normal driving conditions)

Your new brakes shouldn't be smelling like crazy... at least mine never have... possibly your calipers are binding? ... is it a burning smell that you notice?

Did you wash off the coat of oil that the rotors had on them? Did you install new rotors? Just pads? Be more specific. Brake cleaner doesn't wash this coating off, soap and water does. Brakes shouldn't smell.

This is on my gf max...so she got it installed at a shop with pads and rotors (some cheap ****...she should have listened to me) Anyways...the other day i smelled a burning smell. You could tell it was a hot air to that smelled. It somewhat smelled like new brakes or when u have a ebrake on for a long time when u drive, but not as strong. I have not smelled anything like that. It is kinda hard to explain the smell.

hmm.....by looking at them, i dont think so, the only way that i could think of is just go and ask the shop. if there ceramic, thats where the smell might be coming from, ive heard from people that some ceramic pads give off a really wierd smell
