My mustang sold..its maxima buying time.
I've found a 96 se with 69k miles on it. Its automatic which is something i can deal with considering the 6500 dollar price tag. Im also looking at some 98s for around 9000. Any comments that could assist my decision will be appreciated.

Learning to drive a manual was the best thing I've ever done when it comes to cars. I pay more attention to the car and feel more in control than when driving an auto. And besides, the 5spd is a good bit quicker than the auto.

Yah.. I got a 96 with low miles and I love it. Its an automatic and I enjoy driving it, however I know I would enjoy driving it more if it were a stick. If you truly enjoy driving then you must masta the stick shift.

I'd have to say that the 98 se is the best out there. I have had mine for 4 years or so now and I have absolutely loved it. It is a five speed (worth learning to drive a stick for since you don't know how). The list of kills is long and distinguished. I have a few minor mods as you can see, and I have taken out a boxter type s, and a wrx from 40 - 120 mph and we both backed out after we saw the deputy. THere are many countless mustangs and 300zx's thinking about how to get more speed now too. The best part is that it can be just as sophisticated as it is fast. I highly recommend the 5 speed 98 se. Find one and test drive it before yo buy an auto!

Don't do auto. I regret everyday that my car is auto. Not for long though. By x-mas it will be LSD 5Spd. I think you should get a 97 GXE 5Spd. 1. 5Spds are cheaper/easier to repair if they break but are usually less reliable. Some of this unreliability can be attributed to abuse. 2. The money you save by buying a GXE will be worth it because you want to replace the rims anyway and you won't feel guilty about getting new Catskins leather. 3. Do GXE's have Alarm or Keyless. If they do then you still have that feature. If not its saved weight. 4. GXE's usually don't have sunroofs which reduces chassis flexing and saves weight. 5. The 5Spd part is self explanatory.
I would agree that driving a Maxima 5Spd is very easy. It has plenty of power to make clutch engagement less of a guessing game and the ability to pull out of a stall. The Maxima 5Spd is only slightly more difficult than truck, Jeep, or SUV 5Spds.
Now that I've said all those things an SE would be very good also. GLE would be my last choice due to the fact that they only came with auto's. May the force be with you. I trust you'll make the right decision.
