Service Engine Soon (0903) EVAP
Got a service engine soon light. I don't know if the error codes are the same but I got the code of 0903. Has anyone had this "problem" car runs perfectly fine. I have a warranty still on the car, I doubt this will apply cuz I'll take it to the dealer and they'll be like the car runs perfect
"0903
Diagnostic Trouble Code 0903 indicates a problem with the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Vent Control Valve or its associated electric circuit.
This part is used by the Engine Control Module to perform the fuel system leak test. Since it is used only for self-diagnosis your engine will run perfectly well despite the dashboard Malfunction Indicator Lamp.
The EVAP canister and this valve are located under the car, near the rear left tire. You might check to make sure all the electrical connectors in that area are secure.
There's no telling how expensive the repair will be, because no definite diagnosis has been made. Maybe you just have to re-plug a loose connector. Since the EVAP system is part of the emissions control system you might have warranty coverage"

I just fixed this exact thing on my 98 se. Didn't know what the problem was but had some other EVAP code (there are about 5 different ones apparently) I went in to the dealer to figure out what was the matter and didn't even know what the part was, simply mentioned "EVAP" and "MAXIMA" and the parts guy reached over, handily grabbed a part from under the counter and said "replace this". Says he sells something like 10 of these babies a week. So even before I got to the "vap" portion of "evap" he was reaching.
It is this little black plactic thingie that screws to the side of the evap box under the left rear of the car. It has a hose connection and a two-pole electrical connection. Check the electrical connection first, before replacing. But if you do have to replace it, be very very very very careful removing the screws. There are little captive nuts in the plastic box that start to spin around and if you can't get the screw out, $350 for a new box. I had this problem and used a little heat and lot of WD-40 as a last resort, got lucky and finally got the stuck screw out.
DK the part number offhand (could look it up if you really want it) but I vaguely recall that it was something like $40 or so. Ask your Nisssan parts guy and mention EVAP. He'll know what to replace if he's worked there more than a week.
BTW, emissions parts are almost always covered under warranty (your tax dollars at work). The dealer will probably take care of this gratis.
