Stillen K&N Cone and Engine RPM

I have a 95 maxima with auto trans and it has 175K miles on it. I recently put on Stillen K&N Cone filter and the car started to drive funny. Below are the symptoms:

-- The engine RPM would drop all the way to zero and the engine would die.

-- The engine RPM is very unstable, it would drop almost to 100 rpm and goes back up to over 1000 rpm.

-- Because of the RPM fluctuation, the transmission would shift harsh sometimes.

-- After installing the filter, I am getting a 0304 error code, which is to check the knock sensor

I have tried resetting the ECU, disconnecting the positive and the negative terminals of the battery, but the problem has not gone away.

Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks!

Knock sensor is going to serioulsly decrease power and acceleration ect. I would also double check all your vacuum lines.

+1 on the vaccume line thing, and make sure you have the MAF pluged in right, and anything else you dissconected.

Check your MAF connection. I had a similar problem, my MAF connector was not on all the way. Once I pushed it in all the way, I heard a click, & the problem was gone.

Exactly what I was thinking... sounds like a vacuum is disconnected or loose. Whenever I try to start the car without the intake it wont turn on.. same if the car is on and you take it off, it'll bog down and die.

Thank you everyone. I'll try to recheck the MAF and vacuum connection. I'll report back. Thanks again!

I want to thank everyone on this thread. I reinstalled the MAF and the Stillen cone filter. After 2 days of driving, everything seems to be ok with the exception of one rpm drop when I was just going about 2 mph. I also clean the airflow and temp sensors with electronic cleaner just to be sure. Thank you!!
