remote trunk opener?

did our cars come with the option of having the trunk being able to open via remote?, because i had an alarm system installed recently, and i still have an extra channel on the remote, that i hope could be used for opening the trunk

Yes, 4th gens with keyless entry have a trunk opener. As for adapting an aftermarket alarm to it, I'm sure it can be done, but I have no clue as to how and/or which alarms are capable.

If you have electronic trunk release(mine is a hair trigger button on the driver's side kick panel), then it should be fairly straightforward. Otherwise, you will have to install an actuator on the trunk lock and then wire it to your alarm. 4th Gen maximas came with the remote trunk release, but it was an option. It will also depend on the capabilities of your alarm.

if you don't have the keyless remote option, you can still get an aftermarket alarm with that option, you just have to buy a trunk release solenoid from the dealership. It's expensive, because it's from the dealership. :/

ic, ya i got the little trunk opener on the door, and i checked out the manual that came with the alarm, and it had a section about putting a trunk release relay in there. I cant believe that the guys who installed didnt put that in there, i paid like 20 more bucks for "door relays" and etc. sigh, i guess its true, u get what ya pay for, i payed only 100 for my alarm.

is there a place where i can buy the relay for it, and instructions on how to do it, or am i forced to pay prolly another 20 for the relay and wait another 10 hours for the people at that car audio place to install it.

you can try ebay or any car audio n security shop. I also had an aftermarket alarm installed but wired the trunk release to my new alarm myself. I paid 10 dollars for my relay at a local audio shop and had some extra wire laying around. You will need to find out what wire when grounded pops the trunk (if i remember corectly its is a purple and yellow wire). On the relay there are 5 numbers(85,86,87,87a,30). 85 and 86 are to be used for the alarm signal. If you alarm sends out a negative (-) signal you would connect 85 to the alarm signal wire and 86 to a 12 volt source. If the alarm sends out a positive signal 85 is connected to the alarm signal wire and 86 is connected to ground. Connections 85 and 86 are used to power a solinoid to create a magnectic force to pull a lever from ethier 87 to 87a or vice versa (i forgot which)

Now when current flows thru 85 n 86 you want the purple n yellow wire to be grounded, so you tap into the purple n yellow wire n connect it to 30. Then you need to figure out if 87 or 87a is connected to 30 when at rest (no current flow between 85 n 86). To test this you can use a multimeter n do a continuity test between 30 and ethier 87 and 87a. Then depending on which one is connected to 30 at rest, you would use the OTHER number and connect that to ground. The one which was connected to 30 at rest should be taped up.

I hope I remmberred everything correctly...gluck!

hmm, i have to take a look at it tommorow, but i got a question, how would you know what kind of signal the alarm puts out? and is there a relay made for the trunk, because on my alarm manual, the trunk release, dome light, and starter disable each show a relay and they all have the same 85, 87,86, 87a, and 30 numbers on it

For the signal your best bet is to look in the manual that came with your alarm. As for the relay, there is no special relay for trunks.

Well the signal wire from the alarm can only be one polarity, unless you have 2 signal wires, one positive and one negative, in which case you would just choose one polarity and tape the other wire. There also are ways of changing polaritys.
