B&M STS install

I wanted to install my B&M shifter today but I was having trouble getting the retainer clip on that holds the blue base piece to the pivot I dont have snap ring pliers and I dont know what they look like. Is there anything else I can use to get it on there or should I just go get those pliers? For those who dont know what im talking about, its step 10 here on here...

Just mess with it enough with a screwdriver...starting with one side and slowly moving around the curve to the other side and eventually getting it all on there. It isn't too hard.

I've never used any snap ring pliers on the 3+ B&M installs I've done for friends and myself.

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure that I wasnt wasting my time by going at it with a screwdriver. I went on easily but I scratched up the pivot point.

^^ I scratched up the same pivot point that nobody will ever see.

As you can tell I wasn't ever too worried about cosmetic damages.
