You will hear a humming sound that gets louder with speed. Also it will get louder with a load on it. For example if one of the left bearings is bad it will get louder if you make a right turn. Try swerving side to side and see if the noise changes.

I had both right side bearings go bad this year. I dont drive my car in the winter, and last spring when I started driving it again I got a humming sound from the left rear over 40 mph. About a month later I was rotating my tires and noticed that the right front bearing had excessive play but it never really made any noise.

Hope this helps.

Could be. Jack up your tire and try to move your wheel around. Side to side, in and out, etc. Also check your tie rods for looseness.

So is the wheel bearing replacement DIY? I know some cars, you can actually buy a hub (with core trade-in) with the bearing pressed in already

The rear bearing and hub are one piece and you can diy quite easily. The front however is pressed into the knuckle so you need a hydraulic press to replace it.
