Hesitation during acceleration

Hesitation during acceleration
Hi,
I just got my 1998 Maxima SE back today after a full tune-up at 50,550 miles. It now has as much power as when it was originally purchased new, for which I am very happy. However, what bothers me is that the engine will now SLIGHTLY and OCCASIONALLY hesitate under acceleration. The key words are slightly and occasionally, because prior to the tune up it was always heavy and constant hesitation when stepping on the gas. Now it is a lot better, but still there from time to time. Here is the problem in detail:
1. When pressing on the accelerator lightly, the RPMs will increase, then hold for a second, then go up again and hold. This will happen again after the automatic transmission has changed to the next gear. During this time the car will slightly shake, and loose power.
2. When pressing on the accelerator hard, the RPMs will go up fast and normal without a delay. However, when this happens, the car will hold for a second or two without increasing speed, and then jerk forward real fast.
I am not entirely certain about what is causing this, but the problem has almost disappeared after the tune up. Replaced were all the things that are changed during a tune- up and everything else cleaned. I am thinking it could be the knock sensor, but tell me if I am right. I was told that I should also get the transmission flushed. Please give me some insight.

Sounds just like what my 96 SE was doing last week. It definitely is the transmission. I have a Manual Trans and I had to replace the clutch. As far as the Automatic goes...you may be able to just change the transmission fluid. Sooner or later you won't be able to move at all, so definitely have the tranny checked out.

Definately sounds like your tranny is taking a dump on you. Get it looked at, or even drain the tranny fluid yourself and see if you find metal in it. If so, means that your tranny is slowing eating itself until it snaps...
