When gas padal released, rpm drops to idle rpm(Automatic tranny)

It's been doing this for a while, and i wanna check if my tranny is starting to failing on me, so i can have a excuse to tell my parents for 5 spd conversion .
and i know this subject has been discussed few weeks ago, i just can't find the thread. anyways here's what my car does.

whenever i release my gas padal during any speed, the rpm drops down to idle rpm just like when i put shifter into N. sometimes it would go under 500 rpm and come back up to 600-700ish. but when i release to gas padal slowly, i mean real slowly, it will stay up in the rpm range which matches the speed. I've been shifting my auto into N whenever i need to brake just for fun. since then it's been doing this crazy rpm stuff.

so my quest is....just like i mentioned above, is my tranny starting to failing?? or is it just ECU that's been miss guided by me due to my "just for fun" shifting into N?

my parents figured it out and they will not torelate any more money spent on the car so..... that's my "parents at the age of 20" story.
