Car too strong for muffler? *flamethrower*

today i finally got my exhaust leaks fixed, had 2 leaks coming from 2 gasket areas (replaced with 2 gaskets on each area) and one bolt from y-pipe to header missing. Car sounded a lot more quiet until i went at it.

Tonight i have a little fun and when i go at it hard in 3rd gear, car starts to sound funny as i let off on the gas but still keep it in gear in somewhat high rpm's, i hear massive popping sounds similar to a max that has too much gas going into car. Friends behind me see they see flames coming out my exhaust. Then as i downshift, car sounds rough, but drives fine. I think my muffler (less than 2 months old) fried on me. I guess i'm running too rich, still gotta get tuned and i guess the leaks being fixed did something else to the car....

I recently got my right 02 sensor changed ( past tuesday) but thats the only thing done. I think my muffler is fried cause car sounds really quiet until i go at it and now it makes like a more crumbling sound. I have cheapo dynomax turbo muffler btw

I got a cel light right before i pulled into the driveway but its so dark i'll check it in the morn.

Any ideas? maybe just running too rich? also i may need a new muffler, 2.5". Any recommendations? I was thinking of flowmaster...need something quiet but doesnt have to be silent cause i know its gonna be impossible wit my setup....

Yup sounds like its running rich for sure. As for mufflers, the best for performance are straight through like Magnaflows... Flowmasters are good but depends on the model since some are chambered... but then again the chambers are what give it the classic flowmaster sound.

magnaflow ehh, this dynomax was DEFINITELY not straight through and i think that may have hurt my performance along with the nasty sound?

so i guess its magnaflow vs flowmaster....

prices and what has better sound? can anyone vouche for any of these?

yeap! that's what i have. brand new for $105 without shipping, and welding should cost another $30 or so.

i got it used from an org member long time ago for $125 shipped, and it was already welded, so it was basically bolt-on.

here's a small video clip of my bomz-r intake w/ JWT filter, wsp y-pipe, and magnaflow ss muffler from inside of my car >> http://home.comcast.net/~happyricefob/iye.mpg

i didn't get a chance to take any video clip outside my car...and i sold my digital camera. sorry if that was a bad refernece.

sounds good but i would like to hear outside as well. As far as muffler specs, the one u recommended has 2.25" inlet i believe. I need atleast 2.5", and would probably do 3" if there's no side effect of having full 2.5" exhaust leading to 3" muffler.

oh gosh, now car sounds worst. I drove my friend to school, then as i'm a few blocks from my house it made similar sound to when my tranny blew but my tranny is fine, goes into every gear and everything. It sounds like y-pipe is rattling against the car or something...real nasty sound even at idle, and car slowed down as if i had a major exhaust leak. Luckily i have an extra y-pipe sitting in my garage but dam man, this is crazy. Just about to dynotune and these BS's start creeping up. This could have possibly been causing the sound as well....

and I keep getting this g*y closed loop control code 03 07....blah!

*venting*
