Key in 'On' position, something in the engine is constantly ticking. When idling it's still ticking but you can barely hear it over the noise of the engine.

Any ideas of what it can be and if it's something I should be concerned about? No codes from the ecu.

I'm halfway through my maximizer install so forgive the wires sitting ontop of my airbox.

Strangest sound I ever heard. Definitely think something is wrong. I'd take a hose, use it like a stethascope, and see if you can determine exactly where its coming from.

Wow, that is not normal at all.

Not too sure what that is, but I think it must be something electrical, since nothing mechanical is moving.

The ticking seemed strong towards the firewall, toward the passenger side.

i think it is the iacv or something around that area having to do with emmisions, I think my car makes the same sound but much quieter, you have to be right up close to the thing to hear it. almost as quiet as an injector.

Its some weird thing, I remember at a maxima meet down here in florida some guy had the same problem with the ticking... Something about the IACV as well.. Not sure, might wanna take it out and clean it???

Can you pinpoint where the sound is coming from exactly?? Sounds like a broken relay but there not even that loud...

did you check for codes if something is bad enough to make a noise so loud it is for sure is gonna trip a code also a saw a n/x sticker you running nitrous check for a bad solenoid ar maybe a relay there's relay box next to timing chain cover

it sounds like when a/c clutch engages but it won't do it unless you turn car on i think you better take your car check for any electrical problem

Sounds like the timing chain, or chain tensioner. I had the same problem two years ago when the milage hit 150k.

$5 I know what it is. Check the screw on your ECU and make sure it is not turned clockwise or left in the middle. It needs to be all the way counter-clockwise.

......I think it's counter clockwsie....either way you will know once your looking at it.

I know that if you have some sensors disconnected the car sounds like that. If you disconnect the brown connector from the TPS it sounds like that or similar. I don't know since your video doesn't work.

Well Maxima10to1 is right, it was the iac valve. I pulled the connector off and the ticking stops. I'm going to follow the steps in the FAQ to clean it or perhaps the fast idle solenoid needs replacing. Either way I'm just glad the problem has been identified.

Thanks Mike,

My ecu screw keeps turning counter-clockwise (never stops - guess it's broken), so I just turned until I felt some resistance. At that point the ticking did stop. CEL came on, going to scan it when I get back form work.

So I guess the question is, why does leaving the ecu screw in a position other than full-cc trip the iacv? And as you had asked in your 2nd thread, I wonder what other impact this may have had on the car's performance?
