Question on car lowering/rims
Question on car lowering/rims
Ok, another newb question..
I'm thinking about lowering my car and getting new 18's. Which should I do first? Also.. anyone know of any good rims (in silver) that would go good with my 99 se? eBay might be a good place to get a steal?
So anyway, I'm interested in getting 17 or 18's, but don't know where to start looking. Any sort of guidance is appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan
EDIT: also, is there anything I should know about getting bigger rims? Effects on the car, etc..

Definitely lower the car first. Getting rims without lowering gives it a 4X4 look and also lowering greatly improves your cars handling as well as making it look better. The thing to keep in mind when picking out rims is the weight. Bigger rims generally have heavier weights and will affect acceleration and breaking.

One more question to add to the list! When talking about lowering your car,and lowering it more.. SPRINGS are the only things which will lower your car, is that correct? For example, many of the popular springs are a 1.3-1.5 drop, but if you want your car lower.. you just need to get lower springs, correct? I'm thinking about the Illumina strut/springs.
Thanks,
Dan
Yes....only SPRINGS lower the car.
I'm dropped w/ Sprint springs....they're about 2.3" drop in front...2" in rear.
As for rims....dont ask us what you should get....it's YOUR car. Get what YOU think will look good. Me personally .... I like the ADR Spade, Motegi FF7, and Axis Se7ens....
17s and 18s' affect the handling mostly....you'll notice a difference of better response of steering depending on what size tire you have. 19s make a big difference in handling AND gas mileage if you have a big tire size w/ it.
delete it from the 4th gen forum...post this in the Wheels/Tires forum.

Thanks!

Thanks!
I've got a few pics.

I did buy the kit on eBay, from the seller jdmwerks13. The kit arrived quickly, and packaged from Tokico. Very happy. Ride quality is not as smooth as stock, but still tolerable. My two year old son can still sleep easily in his car seat, and my pregnant wife only complains on the roughest of roads, but you will notice more rattling of the interior. Handling is much improved, and the car is a blast to drive now. By playing with the Illumina settings you can adjust the oversteer/understeer bias. Very fun.
Enjoy,
Adam
