I must say I'm pretty impressed.... For the price I paid, it looks pretty good... plus the cone filter they gave me doesn't look that bad either... should last a few months....

My opinion...not worth going through the trouble of making your own midpipe plus you have to buy all the clamps and hoses... and filter of course...

I guess i'll drive on the cheap filter for now... i do have a k & n but it needs some serious cleaning....

Good luck...I found my ebay intake's MAF adaptor cracked and my cone filter hanging last night. Does autozone carry a MAF adaptor that would fit our car?

I understand what you’re saying…based on the price, buying one for $40 is pretty good.

But the sense of accomplishment you have after making something on your own is great. Plus it really didn’t cost me anything out of my pocket except for the cone filter and coupling. We already had the metal and other accessories in our shop. But I just love fabricating things...any opportunity I have too weld something I'll take.

don't be supprised if your $40 ebay intake will make your car sluggish as hell , especially in low rpm's.

ohh i know that intakes make my car sluggish... trust me I had a few of them already... i just like to put it on once in a while and listen to the sound when i accelerate... after about a week I get annoyed with it & go back to stock... 9 out of the 12 months in the year I drive on my stock intake... but once in a blue moon I get this urge to put it on for a couple of weeks again....
my car definitely picks up better when it's on the stock intake....

oh yeah...i do keep the midpipe on there though (with the stock airbox)...

Why would the ebay intake make your car sluggish? If your going with a CAI it should add some low end... especially if your going from a midpipe to a CAI

Lowes or home depot should carry the same MAF adaptor that comes with the ebay intake. That's where I got mine.

Its simple.. Take out the battery and you might have to take out the fusebox there its really in the way... Buy one of those sawhole cutter things I forgot the name, I bought a 3" and set the pilot bit where it was supposed it go and had the hole cut in less than one minute.. Then its just stick the tube through there and cutting under there and attaching the filter...

Anyone can do it.

I have noticed a big difference in the low end when I installed my eBay intake. Does this happen with every intake? Or is it only with the crappy ones. And will changing the filter to a K&N help with the low end?

Im using a $40 ebay intake too. I used to just have a cone filter, I think the midpipe made a difference. Not really in power, but overall sound. Its much deeper, but not really any louder. It also seemed to smooth out the power band in a way, but going from a dirty cone filter, to a new one + the midpipe, probably made a diffference there.

it all depends on which intake you order from ebay... not which style, but from which company... some have better filters than others, some have correct couplers, hoses, and holes, while others don't... some have plastic MAF adapters where others have metal... just take a good look at the picture before you buy it... from my experience BOMZ is reputible in parts quality... even the filter wasn't bad...

i ordered that POS in looks for a short ram, but they sent me one that was curved like an "S" and was too long... and it didn't even have a hole for the sensor in it...

so then i just ordered the bomz...

if any of you guys are looking for a filter upgrade I have a K&N 3230 (I think thats the one), its the one that cobymoby sells. Its the one that comes with the place racing intake. I'll take $25 for it if anyone is interested.

-Carson

*I used it on my car for about 500 miles

I got an ebay CAI about two years ago. It came with a k&n filter. I never noticed a difference in low end. I'll keep it on for the rest of the winter and then switch back to stock in the summer to see if there is a difference. It sounds beastly though.

you don't lose AS much with the CAI then you do with the one I got...

some people say that you actually gain with a CAI but that's just a butt dyno...

my opinion is that best performance on our maximas is with the stock box.

yea, unfortunately i ordered the PR CAI and mine did not come with hole for the sensor either. So i'm going to have to use a lil creativity there and make one. But overall i'm please with mine, esp for the price i paid for it.
