Red/Clear Side Reflector Problems?

Yea, so when i did my red/clears I took out the little red corner reflector because it was an eyesore, so they look like:

for everyone else who has done this ... did you do the same as me, simply remove the bulb (i think it was a 194?) from the socket where the red reflector once was, so that it isn't always illuminated white?

i would assume so, but my question is anyone had any legal issues without having a "side" red reflector.. passing inspections and such

strangely enough when I went to get my sticker (in MA) the tech mentioned that i had a bulb out in that little area. I didnt replace it and I havent had any trouble so I think you should be set.
