Red / Clear question (I searched)

Ok, I went through 7 pages in this forum without finding anything, so I guess I'll just ask. On www.vqpower.com it says to use a heat gun to pop em open. I've also heard people use ovens to open them. If I do it in the oven, will it warp the plastic. Im helping a friend out on this one, and I'm not sure what to do. Which way would be safest? I can't afford to break anything.

Thanks
Chris

I know I can't do it on a 95-96. As I said, I am helping a friend out. He has a 98.

out of curiosity does the red/clears look just as clear if your heated and got them out yourself versus buying a pair?

cause if they look the same then, why does everyone buy a set of red/clears when they could heat up the tails they have and make a set themselves?

As far as I know they look the same. Buying a set saves hassle, and you don't run into the risk of cracking the lenses...

People get nervous heating up headlamps/taillamps afraid they may crack them and such. I don't blame them, but doing it yourself would save you some $$.

You wont warp the plastic, just dont over do it. Its probably more dangerous to use the heatgun since you'll be putting a whole lot of heat on one part of the lens at a time. Just be very careful and patient and dont force the light open, if need be heat it up some more.

i used a heatgun and it was fine, didnt keep the gun pointing at one spot for more than a second tho, was slowly revolving the gun around the entire piece, worked well.

....cept for my first attempt and got a lil impatient and tried to use some force and cracked the light a little :-\

Take your time with doing it. If they don't come apart easy use a bit more oven time, just like you did your corners.

Take ur time. As anarchy 57 said go around the taillight with the heatgun dont hold it at one place for the whole time. The over worked the best for me when i did my headlights.

ht eones yo buy looks alittle better than the ones you make. first off the clear lense on the inside is the same looking design as the one in the reverse lights. Cause when you cut the light cover to make your lense it does not look the same at all. Also clear inserts that are put into the are alot better looking cause they are especally designed for the lgith inside of just cut out with some scissors.

also the tail lights are harder to take apart than the headlights IMO, when i did the mod i cracked my tail light because they are alot more ***ile than the headlights so it does save hassle. i wil be buying a pair here pretty soon off ebay.
