I just wanted to know if installing a new suspension in the rear requires me to take off all the carpetting in the trunk and basically make myself comfortable in there for a while?

nope.. you can pull back the carpeting where the strut towers are located and access teh two bolts that are there pretty easily.. no need to live in the trunk
