eh.. driving down the highway minding my own buisness when all of a sudden this guy decides he wants in my lane...

had to slam on the brakes to keep from hitting him...

just got on the highway and was speeding up to 70..

maybe your brake pads or caliper is riding against the rotor?

If a sudden slow-down (let alone stop) from 70mph causes a change in your car's braking ability,(eg. shakes) perhaps you need to invest some serious time/money in the brake system as a whole. My quess is that the rotors are "slightly" warped.

If they are vibrating now.. I would say they are warped. Long fast braking distances with stockish rotors will cause your rotors to get warped.

What does short, hard braking do then...cuz my brakes are feeling a little wimpish right now?

could result in the same. Anything strenous on stock rotors can lead to problems.

If you locked up the tires, you could have flat spotted them.

Get new tires.

You got that right, a lock up at 70MPH will definately cause flat spots on your tires. Your rotors can't warp up on one panic stop, takes quite a few rapid heat ups and cooling cycles before the rotor surface becomes uneven. It happens gradually, not all at once.

I did it once. I locked up my brand new tires from 65mph all the way to a dead stop. Needless to say, they were totally ruined.

Get your wheels balanced, they'll spin the tires and tell you if there are flat spots right then and there.

Well are you braking when you feel the vibration? If you apply the brakes and they shake, then they are warped.

I think your most likely out of balance on your tires. Get a balance and an alignment.

Sorry to hear about your problem.

rofl if just hitting my brakes hard once will toast my rotors or tires then i need to get those 300zx calipers. Just replaced with front left caplier with an OEM, it was locking up bad. Put 500 bucks into my tires and have slotted/drilled brembo rotors coming with kevlar pads.

If i was you, i would first balance, and then if it still does that, it could be your alignment. i dont think doing 1 hard brake would warp the rotors just like that.
maybe if you braked hard, and kept on holding on the brake, then yes, its warped. just imagine your rotors super hot and your brake pads just resting on it, that's a big nono!

Of course not. This only happens when the tire locked in position.

ill get them balanced and aligned possibly later today if i can..

thnx for the help..

i also read that a torn cv boot can eventually make your car shake or something... this is most likely not the problem is it?

kk.. took it to the shop..

one tire is very badly flatspotted.. the other is just meh.

(had them rotated a while back after it happend)

anyway they coudnl't balance the flatspotted tires... so they just done the front two and then switched sides with them.

also had them look at the leak im having and it is infac coming from rear vavle cover.
