Next Project AWD maxima!!!!!!

First thing I'll say is good luck. However, I doubt this will ever get done seeing as how you don't know what driveline parts you're going to use, even though you already have a down payment on it.....that and you spelled chasis 'shasis'
And to the Ice guy who said his friend has already done this and that "its sick".....oh please show us some evidence of this. Until then

I totaly agree with you.

just get an sti or evo and do a 97 maxima head and tail light conversion with the fender and everything i bet it would be a lot cheaper.....imo

I'm not sure why I haven't seen anyone mention this, but there doesn't seem to be anywhere to run the driveshaft to the rear without killing your ground clearance -- if the car were lowered at all, either the exhaust or the driveshaft would be damn near scraping the ground at times. Unless you ran side exhausts or something.
And $5k for all that? heh.....
Honestly though, whether or not this is all just a ploy for attention or something, I think something is worth mentioning here. The Maxima is a big enough car that it would really benefit from not having to have the front wheels do all the driving and the steering. And with its poor F/R weight distribution, RWD wouldn't really be preferable to AWD either. It's not even about drag times... an AWD Max would kick sh*t as a daily driver. It'd also be a heck of a lot more livable than an STI, Evo, or Skyline, and with a turbo, it could still be almost as fast (if not faster). There's really no car on the road under $80k (i.e. Audi RS6) that'd be as versatile as a 450hp AWD Maxima with some chassis stiffening and suspension work.
I'm going to cast my lot with the "I'll believe it when I see it" group on this one.

I highly doubt any 500hp Max at relatively stock weight can run a 12-second flat. Maybe I'm wrong....I've just never seen it happen.
P.S. I would also take the E55 over the RS6 anyday (same pricerange and you get so much more).

how can you say that? HLH ran 11s or 12s at 476 whp/505 wtq. Close enough to 500 hp. And maybe he doesnt want an Evo. Everyone has an Evo as a fast car, or an STi, or an SRT-4. They are a dime a dozen. But an 11-12 second Maxima isn't, which is why i could justify HIM spending the money he is. I would never spend that much on my car, just because I dont have it. If I had hella bank laying around, i'd considering taking everything from an r34 skyline, and putting it in my Max for ***** and giggles. And to the IcedOut guy, having an AWD max would be pretty huge, so i doubt your friend has one. I also would like to see pics of this "sick" Maxima.

Here are a few ideas for and AWD Maxima, look for a tranny from an AWD Murano, modify the bolt holes on the Murano tranny, so it will mate up to the 3.0. If its mounted similar to the Maxima. If possible, if the rear end of the Murano is very similar in width to the rear end of the Maxima, look for a Murano back end or Pathfinder. Now all you have to do is get a custom drive axle. Or better yet look for a Murano engine, tranny, rear end and custom drive axle. wambam thankyou maam you have an AWD maxima. Thats if the rear end would fit. Problem is that if it would be manual or auto.

The G35X is a RWD setup, so the whole engine bay would of had to be redone plus firewall cutting not to mention beating the hell out of the rear of the car to fit a pumpkin down there.

I think the maxima would definitly put up a fight with an E55 (assuming its going to be AWD and have 450HP)
an E55 has 469 HP and 516 TQ (lets say 470 and 515)... impressive.. but the set back? Curb Weight = 4087.
The maxima wins in that category. Now an E55 runs like high 11's (close to 12's as you mentioned) according to vids i watched it was like 11.7
I think an AWD maxima could pull it off with 450hp. And if not, then it wins anyway, because shiiiet it's a maxima + 5k investment vs. an 80k car.

if youre going to be turning your engine 90 degrees, might wanna think about twin turbo if you have room on the sides, and also, if the whole chasis is gonna be custom, why not true dual exhaust? its your money, so dream big.

I still give credit to the E55. You mention how heavy it is - to that I say: "exactly". Considering how heavy it is and still manages to run high 11's, capable of running flat 12s all day long. After all, what other bone stock sedan do you know of that can run high 11s? There are none.

In your previous reply you said the E55 would "spank" the maxima. I'm just saying that's not the case.
The maxima would definitly put up a fight if not win.
And of course you "give credit" to an E55 for running 12's... shiiiet..
1. It's a Mercedes.
2. It runs 12's...
but at what cost? we're comparing a car that cost 20-25k and then had 10k in performance mods? (AWD conversion (5k) T3/T4 (3-4K) Bolt ons (1k) ?) rough figure 30-35k vs a car that's easily 75-80k off the line.
I say the maxima wins by all calls. I say the maxima wins by all calls. But it's entirely according to preference, and im sure several people would rather have the benz. If you have the money more power to you, but for people like MaxInProgress, as he clearly stated, it’s not about the $$ bout about the fact that he did the work himself. That’s the beauty of DIY work, it’s great for some people and not so great for other

This can not, and will not work. From browsing these boards over the years, these types of threads are a dime a dozen, and I've yet to see one with any good results. They just vanish into obscurity after people realize the countless problems they didn't foresee.

Take out a 280hp / 340hp engine to put in another 280hp engine?

hmm...alot of pessimist's here...i mean this guy did put down 3k....so unless hes not telling us something, im hopin to see some type of progress out of this. Also for those of u complaining about how this guys is puttin so and so money into a car that isnt worth half of what hes spending on it, i didnt hear u guys gettin at jason (sadler) when he was modding the ish out of his car, and look how many people worship(ed) that car. W'ell to each his own, and gl with your project, hopefully youll be a pioneer like sadler, tilly, mardi etc. dont mind the complaining either, people on this board are pic feinds. so untill you post pics, expect the comment....gl

Soapbox time.... :
I can't believe Armani managed to come in here, drop one line about the E55 (guess he felt threatened when I said "RS6"), and get everyone worked up. I also think that certain important things about a theoretical AWD Max are still being missed. People need some perspective here.
1. Comparing a custom AWD Max to an E55 -- or an Evo, or an STI, or a Skyline -- and trying to say which one is "better" is stupid. Someone thinking about 450hp AWD Maxima clearly wants something lighter with better traction than the RWD E55, but less raw/edgy/rough than the other three above.
2. Telling someone "PFFT an AWD Max would never make it into the 11s haha you suck" is also stupid. At no point did the person who's doing this claim that he's doing it for better ETs. Plus, people who claim that one car is better or worse than another on the basis of 1/4 mile times are pretty dim. Ahem.
3. $5k is not the end of the money you'd need for this project by FAR. MaxInProgress says he's getting a *ton* of help from his dad, etc.... For anyone else to have this done, plus to buy the parts, actually put the car together, and do the engine work necessary to make the conversion worth a damn, you're talking $20k+. If you must make comparisons between this and other 4-door AWD cars, that's the price point -- NOT $5k.
