Why is everyone saying its going to cost 5k for this? You guys must have no clue the type of fabrication and custom work it would take to do this. Since he thinks someone can do it for him for 5k, he has no clue the problems he is going to encounter. But whatever, just sit back and let him realize theres a whole lot more involved than just getting a chassis and transmission.

Here's what he said on his first post:

1) He found a company who makes all wheel drive chasis for any car. Cost is around 5,000 without the labor of redoing the whole car, cutting it, etc.

2) His father owns a shop and hes a bodyman.

Those are his words. So far, he probably has no source for the other things such as driveline and engine retrofitment for the AWD chasis. This kid seems zealous and probably have deep pockets to even think of tackling such a project. However, it takes more than that to accomplish something like this. So far he hasn't answered many of the more technical questions posted by many til now. Yet he's fronted 3 g's to get the chasis started. I am not sure if he is fully aware of what this takes but it would be pretty foolish to throw away that kind of money for a project that you haven't done complete homework on. Lets hope he has otherwise, I'm kinda concerned why he hasn't answered the questions about driveline and such. Also, for someone to get into a project this extensive and expensive, one can naturally hope and dream of spanking some of the newer rockets out there. Just doing this for being unique is totally BS. One's idea of being unique could be driving a neon pink gremline going all out on a body kit, exhaust, etc. Yes unique! Otherwise, totally waste of time and utterly ridiculous.

forget about how the engine/transmission is mounted.

How are you going to put this setup into a solid axle rear?

I find this highly suspicious

If you had a 3rd gen this would be possible by using a rear from an Infiniti J30 and some sort of a custom transfer case because the 3rd gens have an independent rear suspension.

I think you're either making this crap up or in for the con of your life.

so he may be rich or spoiled, have a passion for his maxima but come to think of it,
thats a lot of money he's spending on tryin to convert a fwd to AWD. why not just save a few more $ and get a real AWD like wrx's, evos and tune those suckers up. there capable of reaching high 600hp if tuned right. i mean thats what i would do if i had the $ IMO

I notice a lot of people saying "if you save a few more grand, get an evo sti"

He stated he's dropping 5Gs and let guess about another 3 gs in labor etc. Thats about 8's save a few more (3 more) 11Gs get an evo sti? thats still pretty short of an EVO or STi (30Gs) unless you guys mean a downpayment, in which that would be one hell of a downpayment but still would have much more payments to pay it off, versus here where (hypothetically assuming the project is a complete success) he would have spend about 11Gs and have the equivalent of a 30G car.

Maybe MaxInProgress started this thread just to show all his friends how easily people on the .org make 4+ page threads and start flaming each other at the slightest mention of a hot topic (although I must say I never regret a chance to take potshots at Armani's fetish for Mercedes).

Or maybe he has no friends and wants attention.

Or maybe he hasn't responded because he's pissed with all our pessimism.

Or maybe it's all true, he realizes he's been jipped, and doesn't want to talk about it.

Hmmmm....
