So my buddies Camry got me thinkin

It got me thinkin tonight. We removed his muffler tonight as a joke cuz we were bored. It actually sounds amazing. Now his pipe points upwards toward the trunk, and it did get hot. But i saw that ours it points down and away. Has anybody taken off there muffler? cuz mine is rottin from the inside and plan on gettin a new exhaust, just wondering what it sounds or what would happen. Any help is appreciated. Ill take it off Next weekend if i get bored again, and do a "what if..." thing about it

I don't think he meant the entire exhaust, he meant just the muffler. The muffler doesn't clean the exhaust gases... so I don't see how it would cause more pollution (other than more noise pollution).

I do agree with you though, that it is a bad idea.

Damn my allergies.

This idea is up there with poking holes in your exhaust to make it go vroom vroom.

Driving w/ no muffler on the max sounds terrible. At idle its kind of ok but once you step on the gas it sounds like crap.

I run my car with no muffler. When i bought the car it already had a stillen axleback after about 6 months some how the bolts got stripped where it connect to the b-pipe. So I had to take the muffler off cuz every bump i'd hit, the pipes would bang against eachother. Ever since then I've been running with no muffler cuz i have no time or money to fix it. But i have to say i did get quite a few compliments after i took it off. People said it sounds "meaner". haha. I couldnt really tell the difference, its a just a lil bit more ricier sounding to me. Oh well I'm gettin a whole new exhaust system after the summer anyway so its not really a concern for me right now.

Try running a max with open y pipe or open exhaust manifolds. Both are very loud.

Personally, I don't think a mufflerless VQ sounds bad, so long as you have the stock Y-pipe on there. It'll have a smooth tone to it, like an i-6 engine. In other words, it'll sound similar to a Camry V6 without a muffler. How do I know this? Well my moms 96 Camry V6 muffler has rotted away and it sounds similar to my FloPro, only louder.

How bout you guys put the muffler on and drop it and see the sparks FLY. Now that's way more cooler than hearing just noise.

Nah, i havent taken it off yet, but that sound of the muffler's insides rottin from the inside is buggin the CRAP out of me above 2Krpm. And yeah i do have too much free time, i've been trapped in school/work for the past 2 years and to have days off now, is..........odd. But thanks for the advice. So lets say i do get a cat-back. What is the best one to get? Custom Enterprise has a greddy one but not for 97-99 max
