Exhaust Repair Question

I've been told by my mechanic that there is a break in the pipe of my exhaust. Between the muffler and engine. (don't know the exact point). He wants to charge $300.00 to by the replacement and install. Can I (newbie) purchase the pipe or pipes and install them myself? Any help is appreciated.

Between the muffler and the engine?? There's B pipe, cat, y pipe, header... all between muffler and engine. Find out which one he wants to change and most likely you can do it yourself for a cheaper price. If he's trying to charge you 300 bucks, I'm guessing it's something like a B pipe...

Check with Home Depot, they sell this putty-like substance that actually seals and hardens on metal surfaces. You can patch the opening with this stuff, I have used it many time trying to hold on to my old Dodge truck. Good Luck.

Mitch.
