replacing the a/c evaporator

has anyone replaced their evaporator core/coil? i have a 95 maxima and midas wants 500 bucks just for one. i can get one for 90 and the labor from midas is 100 bucks i assume 2 hours of labor so i want to do it myself. anyone know?

put system in a vaccum. remove glove box, remove metal bar, cut off plastic bar, remove 2 retaing clips, remove 2 tiny screws and the remove 4 large screws securing the evaporator. R&R. and then R&R the reciever drier. then recharge.

what's the a/c evaporator? and how exactly do you know is failing and/or need to be replaced? thanks

That's where the air gets cooled and dehumidified. You should be getting cold air at about 60 degrees or so. Higher temps indicate that either you don't have refrigerant or the coils aren't colling.

I pulled mine to replace the expansion valve. Exactly what killcrap said, plus replace the o-rings. It's not too bad of a job, you'll just need them to evac and recharge for you.
