Easiest and quickest way --->Change tire size.

If that's not the answer you're wanting, get ahold of Aaron92SE. I believe he's doing this (changing F/D) with his 92 automatic. But as far as I know, no one has done it on a 4th generation, and if they have it was a race application, not an attempt to gain "a little more low end power".

Even by changing it, unless done quite drastically, you won notice more low end "power" or grunt.

Automatic is 3.619, the transmission is nearly identical from 99-00, and so you may try that F/D, which is 3.789, but will not make a bit of noticeable difference.

Highway gas mileage will suffer.

Best bet as I've stated to you before, get a 5 speed swap. But most importantly, do a little research of your own.

How much of a Maxima gear head are you...
Explore all options.
-which transmissions are similar, what will work, and what will be the benefits &/or drawbacks.
-How feasible is it, will it be worth it for what will be gained.
-What will do the same and has been tried and true ... 5 speed swap.

One thing that would be a cool project, and has been LOOKED at before, but never one, is the 5 speed automatic from the 04+ Maximas.

Get a y-pipe, if you haven't already. Quickest way to add low-end power.

i think ill just go with mild street Maxima Torque Converter. this should give more horsepower thoughout the power range and give me that kick i need for first gear without sacrificing gas mileage. my 0-60 should increase a whole lot.

anyone tried one of these - if so let mw know what you think of it. ive been told it only engages at wot (wide open throtle).

High stall converter wont give you anymore power, just let you lauch a bit more agressively.

ive heard there is quite a bit of power lost in the converter and you can increase horsepower by having a better one installed.

Ditto on the TC. Costs for a modded one run about $300-350

There was an article online I read that essentially said you could basically make another transmission fit your current engine, or viced-versa -- make another engine fit your current transmission.

I would love to have a 5-speed auto with shiftronic.
