what ATF do you guys use and what mileage?

What ATF do you guys use, for your 4th gen? How many mileage etc?

The reason I ask is because after much browsing in the FLUIDS section and from individual threads, I am STILL uncertain as to what ATF for my 97 Maxima. **I hope mods won't move because here in this section, I feel I'll get more of a reply based on the model and relative mileage, usage etc.**

I don't know if the previous owner used SYN ATF, but he has started to use AMSOIL OIL ever since breaking the car in from dealer. So ever since then, I"ve always kept up using AMSOIL motor oil. I don't want to cheap out and use regular ATF if it'll worsen situation.

People say don't use SYN because of age, yet some say you should cuz of its properties, some also say don't use SYN cuz it's too slippery which is actually bad. etc etc.

SO I am curious about the facts and opinions and experience you guys can give.

I have a 97, w/ 65k.

Thanks.

I use Amsoil ATF. Your Max should be fine to make the switch - no matter what the mileage. Once the Amsoil is installed look at changing it every 75,000 miles or so depending on how you drive.

MOBIL 1 as in syn or regular?

I am thinking of using MOBIL 1 SYN, AMSOIL, I guess I'll just save it for the ENGINE.

They have diff versions like dexron and type f. I think dexron is used for maxima but correct me if I'm wrong. Should I go ahead and buy that fluid? Will it last long and stuff?

i'm not sure about this, but owner's manual reccommends dexron III. I recently flushed the system with Pennzoil Dexron III. It has no additives and is not synthetic, which is what Nissan Matic D (Dexron III) fluid should be.
