BOSE nonfunctional

I searched all the sticky threads and didn't see my question here, so I'll post it. I have a 95 Max GLE with the BOSE radio and the unit will not power on at all...I checked the fuse under the dash for "BOSE" and "radio" however they are both good...any ideas? Possibly another fuse somewhere? It makes no noise, no lights, etc...thanks in advance!

if all else fails...pull the unit out of your dash and check that the power cord and all the harnesses are plugged in? You never know if one came loose for whatever reason

Well none of that has worked...I'm going to take the one out of my other max and try it to see if the HU just died or not...where can I buy a new one if it's dead?

A new one is 800 bucks - look on Ebay for a working used one out of a 98/99 year. You can pick one up for ~100 bucks.

Even if you get another one it'll just die out again on you anyway. I'd go aftermarket if you're just getting a new HU, it'll be much better than the Bose for much less $

Recommendations for aftermarket ones to replace the BOSE? Can I keep the factory BOSE speakers and just switch the HU?

hey there, this just happened to my max, search online for a shop that specializes in fixing BOSE HUs, and send it in to them. luckily theres one near Orlando that I sent mine to. According to them, this thing happens a lot on the HUs in our cars.

btw, try disconnecting the neg terminal from the battery and then reconnecting it. The radio should turn on again, (so you can get any Cds out) but it will probably die again later like mine did. (seemed to happen whenever the interior of the car got hot from being out in the sun).

Google search: BOSE radio repair

btw, cost is about $150-200

Hope this helped you out!
Good Luck!

Yep, dead unit, I took one out of one of my other maximas and she worked perfect...Are there any full size (double DIN I think) radios that look great and work great that sound as good or better than the factory BOSE and that I can keep my stock BOSE speakers with?

Had the same problem. Bose is great sound but mechanically a piece of shlt. I picked up another newer one off of ebay, that also has malfuntioned in a matter of days. i am thinking i hate bose. good luck though, and you can find a cheap one on ebay for around 150 - 250.

Do you really need a double DIN? My opinion is that you don't unless you actually use the tape player. If I were you I'd just get a cd/radio unit and but something else in the other space like another storage compartment or some gauges if you want to get creative. You can use any aftermarket HU with the Bose speakers as long as you get the adapter sold through crutchfield. Just type in your year maxima and look for headunits that fit it and you will be able to find the adapter that allows you to adjust the output level of the HU to match the speakers. My personal favorite HU at the moment that I will be getting once my Bose stops functioning is this http://www.crutchfield.com/S-78oSPAH...50&I=070XD7600. It looks spiffy and it has great reviews and is on the cheap side only because it is a smaller company than say...Alpine..but the quality is there. Goodluck

I don't have to have a double DIN, I just don't like the looks of the skinny single DIN radios...how's Kenwood radios... Kenwood Radio this one has 22 watts whereas many others are only 17...anyone have an opinion on how it'd sound versus a factory BOSE replacement? If anything, I'd want it to sound better than or equal to my old factory radio. Opinions?

Hate to keep posting the same thing...but surely someone has an aftermarket radio with factory speakers and amp and knows if it sounds better, same, or worse than the factory bose head unit...anyone? More specifically the radio I posted...the Kenwood link.

I think you should expect it to sound the same as the factory bose or worse. The bose system was put together as a "system", so it was tuned accordingly. An aftermarket unit with a adapter in between is only going to be able to match that tuning to a certain extent.

My recommendation: Go with the aftermarket HU (that you want), get the adapter, and then when you have the time/inclination/funds, swap out the speakers and eventually put in an amp. That way you can upgrade in steps.

So you checked the fuse box for blown fuses. How about the fuse I seem to find behind the head unit itself in most bose systems that I see? The bose in my car works fine so I haven't checked to see if there;'s a fuse there, but I have fixed older versions of the head unit by simply replacing the fuse that's on the back of the head unit. It's an idea.

Try to goto your local nissan dealership and ask if they can send it out and have it fixed. My local said they could send it and get it fixed, cleaned, checked all the way through for $200 a stealership saying $200 to fix mine was amazing.

I checked, didn't locate a fuse...however under the dash the BOSE and radio fuses are fine...the other HU I took from my other max worked immediately upon me connecting it, so it has to be the unit itself. I may check with the Nissan dealer here to see a cost of fixing it....thanks guys

Forget the dealer. If you really want to get it repaired, look here: http://carstereohelp.com/

They'll do it for < $150 (or less).
