More air on the intake

I just installed my short ram intake. The cone filter sits right behind the battery. I was wondering if anyone has tried moving the battery to open up some space for better airflow to the filter. Moving the battery would obviously help but I'm wondering how much and if its even worth thinking about.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Leave the intake stock. Moving the battery wont do much and isn't worth the hassle. If anything, put the stock resonatr back in place between the TB and MAF.

I don't think moving the battery would help at all. It's sucking in hot air under the hood anyways. What's surrounding the filter? Air. So you're fine.

Can you clarify your stock resonator statement? It seems to me that the stock resonator would provide more airflow resistance in the intake system. The short ram piece that replaces the stock resonator seems to allow better flow since its basically just a uniform-diameter tube.

Thanks.

where would the air flow from? there is air all around the filter. clearing a path wouldnt really do anything.

Check the dyno forum.

Also, do a search on Hermholtz type resonators.

Used to have RAM intake (aka HAI = hot air intake). It's named appropriately as HAI because it sucks in hot air coming from the engine. I yanked out the HAI and went back to stock. Now the intake is no longer sucking in hot air which is better anyway. Wanna know more?? Go to the MOD FAQ thread, all the different intake setups are explained there.

if ur gunna remove the battery, you might as well take out or relocate the headlight in front of the battery, then you will truely be running a ram air with perhaps "cold air"

I have a short ram also and i was thinking about making a heatsheild for it. I would take the stock air duct and somehow work it into the heat sheild so it would be some what like the stock intake. It would look something like this: http://www.nloc.net/forum/showthread...ferrerid=25914

That's a good idea. Now all you need to do is duct cool air from outside the car into that section which is closed-off by the heat shield.

I've messed around with that idea a lot for the track:

I've also messed around with the idea of making a little scoop that goes underneath my front bumper and forces air to the filter. There was no change in power or MAF voltage. Here's a pic of that:

I also had the idea to build a ram air setup with tupperware along with that same scoop you see above! That idea didn't work unless I was doing over 80mph on the highway. Anything slower than that, it seemed to struggle to get enough air. But once you were moving, you could tell there was a power increase.

Here is where I got that idea:

http://www.thumper300zx.com/modifica...hairintake.htm

And a pic:

But I latest and greatest idea is a HVAC floor register from Home Depot. It's a rectangular piece of sheet metal that funnels down to a 4" tube. Then I reduced it down to a 3" tube and into my throttle body. Of course I have to remove my headlight. But it's only for the track. No filter. Much like Jime's setup, but I cram a little more air in b/c of the increase size of the funnel. I wish I had a picture of it. But I've only tested it at the track twice and I forgot my camera. In theory, it has to help over the pictures above (my pervious setup)... I just know that it doesn't hurt performance while at the track unless a small bird flies in my intake.

Here's Jime's setup:

I assume you are replying to my post about jime's car? Yes, he had nitrous on that car. I think he had it up to a 125 shot. It was wet, not dry. Ran low low 12s too with his 95 Automatic Maxima. His handle is "Jime" if you want to look up his profile and find his website.

*edit: yeap, that's Jime's car. You will see a turbocharger before you see my nitrous kit after that.
