Loud SQUEAK during start up

I've had the problem for about a few weeks. This happens when i start the car up in the mornings to leave for work. I turn the ignition and a loud SQUEAK happens. Its funny cuz the sound stops when the oil light on the dash fades away after start up. Is it somehow related? i'm about only 200mi over an oil change. Could it be my spark plugs? They are relatively new. Im currently running NGK Coppers.

Thanks

Nice write up, but i have this problem in addtion to the loud squeak. i guess it could be a belt. I hope it is. My car sounds like bloody murder when it starts up.

The starter noise does not sound like a squeak. When was the last time the belts was replaced?

The drive belt was replace back in May. The other one hasn't been touched yet. You think that's the problem?

I have the exact same as im typing this. It is your drive belt. On my car it happens because i need to replace my belt tensioner. Have a look at the belt and check for their conditions. If not take a look at the tensioner as the belts might need some tensioning.

Belt can stretch over time. At proper tensioning, the belt should deflect about a quarter of a inch.

I had the same problem. Replaced the belt and squeek went away. When looking at the replaced belt after, it had the usual wear with some cracks on the interior of the belt but looked fine. Try tightening your belt.

Could it be the PS belt making the noise?

noises

I think i have both the problems listed. The squeek comes occasionally and is more on the passenger side meaning most likely the belts. The almost a buzzing sound comes from the drivers side of the engine I believe, I'm assuming it's my starter not disengaging. Are my assumptions correct?

I think you need to tighten your belt a little bit. You should be able to turn it 90 degrees but no more with out major effort.

Tensioner for the AC/ALT. Even if it is a brand new belt if it is not in spec your car will sound like an '88 Ford Taurus on startup.

I don't think that it's your belts. You say that your about 200 mi over on a oil change! Well the same thing is happening to me in the morning upon start up, then stops after 30 sec. I'm also past due on a oil change, but once you change your oil that SQUEAK will be gone. No more squeal in teh morning!!!
