So now that the car is found....

What do you guys think i should do? I paid 6000 for the car and put roughly 1.5 grand into it. I owned it for around 4 months and only put 3000 miles on the engine. The car only has a total of 45k. When i got the car back, these were the following things that were stolen from it: all the lights housing and everything, entire center console, all seats except passenger, 2 drivers side doors = (, radiator, compressor, and rims. Not only that but they also cut the wiring for the cornerlights, bumper lights, radiator, doors and the ****ing fuse box! (thats like 100 wires). I dont have pictures since i dont own a camera, but ill try to get some up this weekend. How much do you think it will cost to restore the car? Should i do it at all? Well these are the options i am currently considering:

1. Sell the rest of the car for probably a few hundred, which i dont really want to do. Use the money and buy a 240sx sr swapped and mod that.

2. Buy a 240sx sr swapped and leave it stock. While slowly restoring the max and decide which one to sell when its completed.

3. Buy a 5 speed max with high mileage and swap engines. My car is an auto so whould this be a difficult task? (this is the one i really wanted to pursue because i loved the max)

These are all the ideas that i stayed up all night thinking up. What do you guys think i should do? If you have any other ideas i should consider then let me know. Thanks

Are you saying you had no insurance that covered theft? I would do nothing for the time being until you can fully assess your financial position.

cut your losses and run man. it's not worth it because of the wiring complications you may run into

I didnt have theft coverage or else this wouldnt be a problem. I have around 10gs of my own money and my dad is willing to chip in 4. That should be more than a sufficent amount.

Get another max, and don't be so scrutinizing of the mileage, these cars will run a long long time as long as they are maintained properly, maybe just take out this motor and keep it as a spare or for a buildup?

I would part it out (what's left) and get another max or something else. I know insurance is high, but when you think about it, don't you think it would be worth it now? Especially in NY where stealing maxs are seeming to be pretty common now? Lojack also looks pretty appealing right about now. If I had a max in Ny I would try to have all that.

get another max, with what you have saved up you can get a decent 92-94se 5spd and a 4th gen max 5spd.

thats alot of fixing man if you have the skills and patients then by all means do it. but i would just part it out and buy another max and yes definatly get a 5 speed. and better safty equipment . maybe get a cell phone with gps and start leaving it in the car hidden with the ringer off so it won't alert the theives and when the cops roll up on them in it they will be like when your going to be away from it for a long period of time.

after reading your other thread of when it got stolen. i was parking my car last night and saw this guy looking at my ish , and was thinking when i got inside that they wouldn't be able to start my car cause of my starting issue that im going threw with the crank sensor, camshaft sensor,etc...and was thinking what if we just unclip the camshaft sensor, and something else so a theif wouldn't be able to start our sh*t. the only way they can really get the car then is either towing it or just steal what they want right there which will probably make them have second thoughts. it might get tiring but i would like to insure myself that my car will be were i left it when i come back.

I say you guys leave the crankshaft plug alone and install a killswitch to your starter or fuel pump, i'd do fuel pump... its really not that hard a few dollars and a trip to radioshack..

consider one of those bars you clamp on the steering wheel. the crooks see that and maybe they won't break in. the kill switches says they will break in and destroy the steering column before they find out the car won't start.

They can cut through The Club in no time flat. I was thinking just remove the fuel pump fuse or something like that. The Club might deter some thieves but not the pros.

One more vote for parting out.

5-speed Maximas are freakin' great. The only caveat is that if you get a high mileage car, you're gonna want to look at a newer tranny as well. The bearings in these 5-speed 'boxes can't really be counted on past 100k miles or so.

45k on the motor and tranny? see what you can get for it first - but unless you get at least $1500 for the whole car, and assuming the engine is clean and well maintained, I'd say keep the good mechanicals and transfer them to a very high mileage Max with a clean body/interior (tough to find, I know). I just don't think you'll be able to part out the car for more than what a strong, clean, low mileage drive train is worth in a driveable car. in the meantime buy a $500 beater early 90s toyota camry that you can sell for the same $$ when the new max is finished.

As for the security part of it, just remove the fuel pump fuse. Car won't start and the thief probably won't think of looking there.

Dude Dump the stole and get something newer.
You *will* have wiring problems.. anyone that says they can fix it good as new is going to take you for a financial ride. Keep it for parts :-) if anything

I will place one more vote for parting it out. You should be able to find a decent 4th gen (and a few 5th gen) for around 14k. Happy searching!

I have 14k but im definetly not planning on spending all of it on a car. Im thinking of paying 3.5k a highmilage max and swapping the engine.

FCK OWNING A MAXIMA IN NY!!!!! Get a car nooooooooooooooobody wants. Try to find a Yugo or a 1983 Ford Escort. You could leave either of these two cars wide open keys in the ignition AND running with a sign saying, "PLEASE STEAL ME", and the theives would keep walking thinking this MotherFcker is crazy!!! That's what I'm talking about...

I agree. . . part out what is left down the frame, buy a high milage 5 speed, swap a younger motor (maybe even DE-K, or VQ35) and go from there. Get theft coverage next time around.

i think you should take out the engine of the maxima, get a 240sx and stick that engine in there, and if that is the case the engine is already out, might as well get some work done on it to make later mods a piece of cake.

do you live close to where it happened? man, i would really be pizzed. id try to stright up park it like it is close to my house, maybe down the alley just to catch a lowlife and beat him...done. maybe they still need a certain part the dumbazzzes forgot, i dont know. i mean yea, cars get stolen everyday, what can you do? theres lots. see, i plan on setting up a fukhead in my town. stright up. i dont care. its called justice. i can talk all day about peeps who steal, its not their first i bet, nor their last, but if they come across someone like me that doesnt play, it ot and this is getting ot, again, good luck bro. later

that truly sucks dude. looking at page 1 and then going to page 2 makes me wanna vomit. for all you guys talking about killswitches and pulling fuses, no doubt a good idea, but the pro that wants to steal a maxima ( oxymoron ) , i wouldnt doubt has spent at least an hour on the .org, and even in that can find what he needs. just my 2 cents, keep it on the low, dont advertise your anti-theft decisions. hey dude, at least they left ur ECU...
