I can not change volume on my 97 Maxima..
I have a 1997 Maxima SE and for some reason I can't adjust volme on my car. Is it possible to replace that volume button? Or it would be better just to purchase working stereo of ebay for ~$100

Check the audio section for your options. I took the easy route out when my Bose HU failed - I just picked up a used working one off Ebay and put it in.
If you want go use an aftermarket HU, you'll have to get an adapter, ... just check the audio section like I said...

i still have my bose unit and its such a headache.
first off alot of CD's mostly burned ones or clear cds dont eject right.
there is a tape stuck in the tape drive that wont come out no mater how much i pry at it.
the sound quality is good but not for audiophiles like myself.
not to mention that but on topic... the volume *** is NOT precices... i can turn it a million times and only turn it down alittle bit. its sooo annoying.
its more effort than what its worth, but if you have the money and like to listen to music alot then do a whole audio makeover with your maxima.
first things first remove that HU (i havent done this yet). put in a kenwood or your favorite bran head unit (HU). but the bad thing is thats not going to work... you would have to get some kind of expensive attachment to work with the factory bose speakers.... well since your speakers are probably kinda old and there ARE MUCH MUCH BETTER on the market i suggest re-wireing them all and getting aftermarket speakers... again kenwood or pioneer are both good brands. (stay away from sony :P - looks arnt everything).
this is expensive and if you take it to someone to do it all, make sure they have worked on maximas' before, cause they will take to long and charge you a lot more money. i think some shops quoted me 60 an hour, and some said it would take a few hours longer than a normal car would take.
the bose system uses differnt speakers and amps on each speaker isntead of the normal way of doing things it was all good along time ago, but now its just more annoying. while your at it add a small amp and a sub in the trunk... most people wont need more than 300watts and a 10" subwoofer from any brand (infinity perfects are the best price/performance if you look at it). but for those of you that love bass your going to want more than that (i have audioboun 1000watt rms all aluminum 12" subs ) its been sitting in my bedroom for ohhh 6 years because i havent found an amp worthy and a car worthy of installing it the maxima after the headunit and speaker conversion will then be worthy!
anyways sorry for going a little off topic. there is an audio forum that may help i just like to go this way about doing it myself.

They were gone when I purchased the car. About a week afterwards the display quit working and was all jumbled, and then the volume **** and other buttons quit working. I somehow figured out that if you tap it in a specific spot everything will work temporarily.
