What would happen if i put 215/40/17 tires on my 96 Max?

hey guys, how would it affect my 96 Maxima SE if i put on 215/40/17 tires on? Would it increase the mileage on my odometer, since I am running a smaller tire and therefore gain more miles because I'm spinning the tires more? I know that my speedometer will be off too (which is no big deal at all to me!).
Or could I just reset my ECU chip to fix this problem? I'm not sure if I should take off the 215/40/17 tires on my Tantrums, since I really want these rims on BADLY and ASAP! I am only gonna put these on during the spring/summer time, since I don't want to ruin the rims. Please help me out. Thanks!

not a good idea!...
trust me..it will feel like ur car is strugging all the time..ur odometer will be spinning like crazy when ur just going 65mph...and ur speedometer will read 80mph and ur only going 60mph...its not worth...not to mention u risk bending ur rims..i bent my rims cuz of thin tires....plus it the end it looks wack..
i had 215/40/17 just like you....
it sucked!!!!!!!!!!!.....
sell those tires and get some bigger tires...
