Just installed SRE sts...
..and it feels a bit more knotchy than stock. is this normal? will it wear in or will i just get used to it? Its alllmost difficult to get it in gear , but not if i practically slam it. The main bolt is as loose as it can get without falling off and the rods clear the cat's heat sheild fine (its dented).. so everything is working the way its suppose to, but ive never used an sts before, is this how they're suppose to feel??
thanks guys

STS are supposed to be notchier than stock, some more than others. I had the CE STS, and even though it was adjustable and made the throws a hell of a lot shorter, it was notchy as a b!tch. You might also notice that the shifter sits forward, which means when slamming 3rd and 5th, it'll hit the console, actually cracked mine while racing. From my experience, I would't recommend a STS, nothing really for performance, just a pain to use IMO.

I'm waiting to install my SRE STS -- I was prevented from doing so (twice) because of the difficulty i had with underbody corrosion. What you're telling me is a little unfortunate, but I am still looking forward to shorter throws. Did you notice anything else about the shifter?

oh the throws are much shorter, it feels much more sporty if thats what your looking for, def. but its a tiny bit harder to get it in gear, im sure ill get used to it tho, works fine other than that.
the shifter came with bushings, and the write up didnt mention anything about them.. i put them on, ill try taking them off and see if it feels better..
as for underbody corrsion, yea i had a ton too. i took it to a small exhaust shop and they replaced bolts that needed replacing for 10 bucks, well worth the exaustion imo.

Well I had taken my car to an exhaust shop for the exhaust bolts, but after the heatshield was removed (which two of the five bolts broke) I wasn't able to remove the shifter bolts at all, even with a good dosage of PB blaster too. Needing hte car to drive, I couldn't afford to strip something that would prevent me from driving...so I've had to wait until this month whenI come home from college to bring it to my mechanic to install.

GREAT to hear guys, i was hoping it just needed to wear in. I love being able to shift from 3rd ro 4th with 3 middle figers with ease
Big Lou, next time you take it to your mechanic, have him heat the bolt that need to come off, or if its the one bolt the actually attaches to the shifter (swivel one) then just chop it off, you're gonna replace it anyway.

if you have trouble getting it into first go one gear higher than you want and then go down. i cut my stock one, and its impossible to get into first sometimes, but just put it in second then first and its super easy. reverse can be hard to and second fixes that also. i'm guessing its just second cus thats all i've ever needed to do to make it easier. ive driven my friends 96 with the stock shift height and i like mine more. even though its harder to shift with it shorter, its shorter and takes less effort. i love mine

yea i agree loosen that bolt up, mine was really stiff and i loosened it up and it feels perfect now not hard at all. Also i recomend using a teflon threaded type nut so u dont NEED it tight at all it can be loose and you still dont have to worry about the nut falling off but make it reasonable

racing is, uh, wrong...
Actually, the truth be told, I drove my friends Integra, lightly modded, and the sts felt so solid but light at the same time. it wasn't some cheapo, so he got what he payed for in this case.
but in most cases, as long as it's steel, a sts is a sts...unless it's a B&M. from what I have heard, no first-hand experience, though, those are definitely worth it.
not having a whole lot of money to spend right now, the SRE is definitely on my list. i figure can't go wrong with $20, and if it is crap, lesson well learned.
