Alternator is going bad

Hey everyone...got into my max this morning and started her up to go to work and of course I get the 3 lights we all hate to see...ABS, brake, and battery When I got to work (I work in a shop) I tested my battery and charging system and found my charging voltage is too high (alternator is charging at 15 1/2 volts). I have excessive ripple and therefore need a new alternator. I can replace it myself but I was just wondering if anyone could recommend one to me that they've found to be reliable. I'll change my serpentine belt for the hell of it since I have to take it off anyway so if the alternator uses a smaller pulley that's ok. I'd like to go for a high performance one around 200 amps if possible but I'm trying to keep my budget in mind seeing as how I'm like $7,000 in debt and still need snow tires and/or a winter beater car Thanks in advance!

Reliable would be the OEM unit. I don't like aftermarket belt driven components under the hood of my car. Well, unless it wines a little..

do not get one from can-am motors thats for sure. ive had to send my alt in about 6 times and im still waiting on a pulley to come that the moron forgot to put in the box. 3 open rotors. one of them just blew up and now the pulley was too small on the alternator which is what caused them to blow up. the guy told me to put on my factory pulley, thats too big now i get like no charge so i gotta take it out AGAIN and put the medium sized pulley on it. Hey deezo what size pulley do u have on yours art said i was over revving mine but i hear you have a 7200 rpm rev limit. im on stock rev limit.

Yeah my car doesn't apply to the recall I believe I checked out the recall when I first purchased the car 3 1/2 years ago. There's plenty of Hitachi alternators on ebay for just over $100 so that's prob the route I'll end up going. I did check out rockauto but I'm confused at to why the Bosch and Denso alternators are still all listed as 110 or 125amp Hitachis? And why are the brand new ones cheaper (with no core) than the remanufactured ones with a core!?!

When my alternator went out I bought one off another member here on the org and it only had about 15k miles off it (came off a parts car) its been fine for over a year. Or you can always have your current one rebuilt.

I believe deezo has an aftermarket performance alternator though I could be wrong. He may have just switched it to a smaller pulley. He stopped by the shop I work at one day a few months ago and we had a small talk and he brought me out to the parking lot and popped his hood to show me his VI and stuff. I actually sent him a PM about his alternator so if he gets back to me before posting here I'll let you know what he says

Possible bad Alternator?

I'm having a wierd problem and it may be the alternator is getting to go bad on me but don't know. Here's the problem i'm getting. When I have the lights on at night and use the turn signals or press on the brakes all my lights including the dash board dim real low to the point were i think i may lose all of the my light (inside and out). Any ideas what may be causing this? Thanks. Carlos

Go to Autozone and buy one. It will come with a lifetime warranty regardless of who installs it. I've had mine in for about 3K without issue but that's not saying much.
