I have a 99 ES and I have LSD so you must too. As far as I know, most Canadian Maximas have them.

^ transfer equal power to both wheels instead of one spinning faster then the other. its kinda like traction control. more power is transfer to the slower spining wheel to make them go even. Great feature really.

Yea i'm not sure if they are directly fitted in our non-LSD auto trannys. I know you can drop them into the 5 speeds like nothing. And i assume you can put them into the autos as well.

You don't put them "in" the transmission. You swap the whole transmission. That's how most people go about doing it for the factory VLSD. Quaife and that cheapo fake LSD are a whole different situation, though. Good luck finding an auto LSD, too...they're pretty rare.

I have a 95SE (Canadian model) and it has LSD. There have been numerous threads on this. I believe you can check a plate on the firewall and the numbering will tell you if someone can decipher it. For whatever reason, I don't have that plate but other local members do.

You can also jack the front end up and spin the wheels to check.

Alternatively, you can phone your local stealership and given them the VIN # and they can confirm whether or not it has LSD.

Check the plate on the firewall, passenger side of the car. If the transmission code ends in a V your car came from the factory with LSD, if it has an A it came with open differential.

You can't swap the VLSD into an open diff trans, but you can get the entire trans and swap it, not that it's worth it. There were LSD automatics made as well as manuals.

I really like how my car handles in the snow. I think the LSD helps a lot with traction as there were a few times last winter I really should have been stuck because the snow was so deep, but I kept plowing through!

If you want an LSD tranny, I would suggest looking for one in Canada as they will be pretty common, either auto or 5-speed.

If you switch them do you have to change the axles as well or anything else?

If you are a 5spd manual and you go from open diff to LSD you have to change the driver's side axle to an LSD axle. If you are an automatic I don't know what all is involved.
