me: 97 gxe with muffler and intake

friend: 93 5.0 with full exhaust, cai and other goodies

ok, we're both 5spd. we pull to stop sign and talk and decide to race. we get ready, inch forward like we staging or something. i raise it up to 4k rpm and he's revvin too and then we take off, i slightly before him. i get a 1/2 car lead up to second gear. when i swithed to 2nd he jumped up to my front fender but as he switched to second, he drops to my rear fender. he comes in slowly up to my front fender again and we both change gears into 3rd at about the same time and he takes off and leaves me about 1.5 cars behind at 100mph where we shut it down. im pretty happy with the results even though i got the slight jump in the beginning. it was cool though because he knew maximas were quick, but this is the first time he actually tasted one. he was quite suprised with the results though..im a happy camper

I used to have a 93 5.0 auto. that thing was horribly slow and I always regretted not getting a 5 speed. Huge difference with a manual. After 92 or so the 5.0 has emissions crap added which effectively reduced hp and acceleration. Kind of like the 97+ maximas... Either way, it's cool that our family sedans can keep up with a 2 door V8! Good race!
