A Sad Chrome Rim Story

A Sad Chrome Rim Story
Not really much here, just a complaint.
I think (never took out a ruler or anything) my 18" chrome rims that I bought last winter has a bend in one of them. I only used them for summer, and now that they are back in the basement, I did notice an off shaped one. The rubber is kinda what gave it away.
A very suddle , but it still looks like the chrome bent in a lil. I tried my best to avoid all bumps and pot holes.... Damn crappy Edmonton streets.
Is there any sort of "rim checker" or anything to try to bend things back to place without scrathing my chrome?

You can't just unbend a bent wheel like a bent bumper! There are places that can fix your wheel. Try the yellow pages, you should see some locally. Just be aware that it isn't cheap. Usually the repair cost is almost about the same price of a new one. So shop around first and know how much your wheel cost so you can do comparisons.

I just recently spoke with a guy here that fixes bends/curb rash etc....on wheels. He said that they do not even mess with fixing chrome wheels 'cause they crack. Of course it is just one place..there must be others that work on chrome wheels.

Well, repairing a bent wheel warrants a wheel refinish. So in your case, they'd have to re-chrome your wheel. Its like fixing a dent on a car, after the dent is repaired, they'd need to repaint and refinish it. That is why I said that most of the time, the repair cost is almost the price of a new wheel.

i had a pretty big bend in one of my 17s when i hit a piece of lumber out on the freeway and i had that fixed for $60. there was no need to refinish the wheel after it was fixed, of course my wheels are alloy but the way he did it there wasn't a scratch anywhere on the wheel. i doubt you would have missed a bent wheel while driving though - mine shook like crazy after i bent it, so unless you had it balanced AFTER it was bent, i really doubt there's anything wrong with it
post a picture, that would help a lot

Oh ok...OEM wheels are cheaper to fix. Chrome wheels or any other wheels with special finish will cost $$$. Chrome coating is not flexible. I bet there are cracks around the are of the bend. Bend it back and the chrome coating will crack even more.
