The slowest 0-60 time I have EVER seen in a car magazine for any 4th gen auto Max was 8.0 seconds. The numbers are comparable to a Maxima, but sorry, a Maxima is faster, though not by too much. I run 7.6s consistantly with my heavy 17"s on, I was at about 7.5 with the stock 15s.

Maybe he is a member of the "Slow Maxima's Club" NO Maxima made in the last 6 years should be over 8 seconds.

I've never had a problem against an avalon, they are heavier cars too. Now if Toyota ever decided to drop a v-8 in one (ala GS 400/430), I'd convert mighty quick.

I have been kinda reading this thread some. Yes, the maxima is faster 0-60 than a avalon. I had a friend who owned a 1997 avalon. I never got to race it but I thought that the avalon pulled harded from 70 to 120. I really liked driving his Avalon. It was boring on the outside but overall a really nice car.

In reality, half a second in the real world isn't a huge difference. I mean, reaction time may account for the half second slower Avalon beating the Maxima, or vice versa.

If you were both perfect drivers, the Maxima would win each time, but then driver variability, traction, reaction time, etc..all affect who will win the stoplight dragrace.

1.)Reaction time is about all that make the difference if both cars are automatic.
2.)The Avalon is at least 300 lbs. heavier than a GXE.

umm..Our maximas have four cams too. 2intake cams and 2 exhaust cams.

You probably have him 0-60 and in the 1/4 but I think the avalon is stronger than a stock maxima from like 70-120. The avalon doesn't weigh that much more than a maxima and it gets better fuel economy (his did). I think the avalon is geared higher.

Don't get me wrong. I love my maxima but the avalon probably is built just a hair better. It's ugly but I really liked the way it felt. His car didn't have the interior rattles that my maxima has.

My mom has a 97 Avalon. It's pretty nice. Before that she had an ES300, which was also very nice, but when her lease was up, they wanted $150+ a month for a lease on a new ES300. She got the Avalon which in my opinion was a better bang for the buck. Pretty much just as nice, I think the differences were in the trim pieces. Anyway, from what I remember it was pretty fast but wouldn't touch my 5spd stock. I think it would prolly beat an auto Max. It'd be close....

They're Close...

They're close, but I don't believe the Avalon has many...or any mods, where there are thousands for the Maxima. And plus, the Avalon is luxury, the Maxima is Sport-Luxury. You'd out-handle him in 2 seconds. Just trying to help
