Ok before you guys go and say I'm full of ****, I barely EVER post about any roadkills...cuz personally I don't think it's worth it.

This one IS worth it. I was leaving TGI Fridays tonight and a new silver Mustang GT 5-speed (I knew it was a 5-speed cuz he had his brake off at the light and started inching forward and chirped into second) pulls out in front of me on this 4 lane road. Anyway...we stop at a light...and I'm behind him...and there is a car in front of him at the light and one in the other lane. The car on our side takes off..and he jumps at the opening with me right behind (I've been waiting FOREVER to play with one of these "new" 260hp stangs) I pull up next to him at about 40 mph...and he starts revving at me....I put it into second and jump a little to see if he's going to go...sure enough he hits it..and I hit it too....I pull about 1 carlength in second..and I see him shift into third right after I do...and I don't gain anymore....but he did't catch up either....we went to about 90mph where he gave up...still at my rear bumper. To say the least I was VERY impressed with my Max's performance tonight. I thought something was wrong with my car after my last crappy day at the track a few weeks ago....but this makes me feel much better about my car.

A word to all the lightly modded 5-speeds out there.....If you can shift fast....try running one of these bad boys....you'll be VERY impressed with how your max fares!

I was at the track a few weeks ago, and there were a slew of new GT 5-speeds, and most of them consistanty ran 14.6-14.7s I don't know why, but I think those 14.0s to 14.3s have A LOT to do with their launch, I really don't think they can cut it up top. Those stang were running about 2.2 60's and I was running 2.2 60's...and I gaurantee they are capable of getting off the line quicker than I can. Maybe it's just a lot harder to launch them. I really feel confident now that I could take one up top. It was one race that I definitely expected to lose, for some reason that deep V8 rumble is intimidating.

I've done all my mods except for the cat-back. It required a torch cuz the bolts were rusted on there, and it had fitament issues that I wouldn't have been able to take care of myself. If you need any help....drop me a e-mail.

Are both of you guys in Chicago? I'm in the northern suburbs....good to know that I've got some of you guys with me here in Illinois. I've got a black 5spd SE....I'm all over the place, so hopefully you'll see me. A couple of months ago, I had a very nice run going I-94 east with a black GLE(?)....anyhow, BriGuy....I see your signature picture....what did you do for your corner light- the one next to the headlight. I know about clear corners for the markers, but where did you get the blue bulb for the corner?
Also, did you do something to your fogs? It looks great by the way!

Good work BriGuy! There is still nothing more exhilirating then taking on a Camaro or Stang. Personally, I'll pretty much race against anything. Not cause I think I can whoop everybody, but for those that don't know much about Max's I just look like a have a 4 door sedan. Many times I know that a car has a good chance of beating me but by the time they realize that my 2nd gear is no f#@$in' joke lots of folks become intimidated and bail out I haven't had at it with a new Stang yet. I'll make sure it's not a Cobra

yea, I'm in the western suburbs. The corners are Polarg 1157 bulbs from APG performance. whatver ever you do don't buy the APC 1157s...they suck ***. And yes, I rewired my fogs so that they go on without the headlights. It's a very easy process actually. Drop me an e-mail if you want to hook up with a group of max guys sometime.

Good kill... you have to think that off the line the Stang will take you because they are geared for low-end. But from a roll around 40-50 you should hold with them if not take them. I raced one on the freeway and was side by side a 5-speed GT from 70 to about 110 where we shut it down. Needless to say he was surprised as well as I.

Sweet job Bri, im glad you showed him the max is no slouch. i was messing around with a V6 99+ stang the other day, some older dude, like 45, redneck... he thought he was fast or something.... needless to say i showed him he shoulda sprung for at least the GT, maybe the cobra, he got beaten badly, it wasnt pretty for him.

Well, a win is a win. Good job.

With that said, be very careful with the 99 GTs you race. I've raced a stock auto 99+GT 3 times. Twice from a stop and once from a roll. It was extremely close to 90mph and then it slowly started walking me. These cars are no slouches at all in the topend with an auto or a 5 speed. Believe me guys. You can't hang with one up top. The 94-98 GTs weren't very quick, but the 99+ GTs are almost a 1 second quicker. That GT I raced was at the track a few months back and I watched her (yes her) pull off consistent 14.6s@96mph<----more topend than me. I've also seen more than enough lightly modded 99+ GTs running low 14s to high 13s than I could mention. We can't hang guys unless you've got a SC or they're a bad driver. I don't know of any NA Maxima hitting 97-102mph trap speeds. Just last night, I raced a stock 00 GT 5 speed with slicks. He pulled a 14.0@98 to my 15.1@92 and this was in EXTREME humidity and heat. I talked to the owner and he mentioned that the week before, in 65 degree weather, he was running 13.6@101mph STOCK!!! I saw the slips.

Beware fellas. The Maxima is nice, but let's get serious. Know your place.
