Idler pulley problems

While working on my belts, I have stripped out the bolt holding the idler pulley down. Just to clarify, it's not the belt tensioner but the nut that holds the idler pulley on.

I can't get the bolt off--it's never been off the car in 158K miles--so it's pretty well stuck.

I also tried "Bolt-Out", a craftsman product, but the bolt remover won't stay on the idler pulley nut.

Any suggestions or alternate ways of pulling this thing off?

Thanks in advance...

Use PB Penetrating Oil. Your local auto parts should have it. Let it soak in for a while and try it again.

I'm sure you are working from inside the passenger side wheel-well - but in case you aren't, that;s the best way to get to that nut.

See if you can get some vice-grips around it... it really shouldn't be on that tight.

You might have to pull the whole assembly off the car to get it off. Its a real tight fit down there and you might not be able to get a pair of vise grips around the bolt

You should be able to access it right through the wheel well. Zap it off with a 3/8s impact wrench if you have to (1/2 would be a bit much).
