Opinions on STS

I was looking to buy the SRE sts that was on ebay for around $25 or so and it seemed to be good since it was steel and not just aluminum. But now I can't find it on ebay ever. But what do you think of this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-99...QQcmdZViewItem

It is steel and seems to be about the same price. I'm only worried about breakin the plastic shifter surround piece. Any experience with it?

Thanks

EDIT: Also, if anyone has an SRE shifter for sale, PM me.

I got a Nismo knock off, but also haven't put it on yet. What's the difference if it's Aluminum or Steel? Just a shifter right?

DR-Max got that same STS, and said that the shifter was much straighter than the stock shifter, and hit the shifter trim. He ended up taking it to a muffler shop or something to have them heat up (not eat of, ) the joint and bend it a little bit.
I love my SRE...that was the thing though - they are not always on ebay, and I haven't seen them for a while. I got DaveSZ to send me the link, and I was then able to view their auctions directly. But for some reason when you search for them, it doesn't yield results. Weird

edit: sometimes I'm stupid and type stupid things.

The one that was posted in the first post - sorry I didn't specify. It looks like a knock-off of the SRE, but the bend is slightly different.

so, Lou. you say you can't always find the SRE when you search directly for it? any tips on how else to find it? or do you know the seller name? I'd really like to get that one as I hear it is a great bang for the buck. strong, and nice fit. any help is appreciated!

I will get back to you on this in a day or so - tonight has been busy as hell with homework and everything else. In fact, it's 2:30 am where I live, and I shouldn't even be on here I have so much homework to do. Give me a little time and I will look through my old pm's to try to get that link. If I forget, or you get impatient, feel free to shoot me a pm.

there are guys on this forum who have no doubt had success with B&M knock-offs, so I won't presume I know it all when I say, go with an original B&M. Let me reiterate that this is my opinion. The shifter is a critical piece in the gear shifting picture, and as such, I want something that I know, by reptutation, will hold up time and time again. The B&M is strong and sturdy, and man does it give you a nice feel. I can't justify why it's more expensive, maybe it's just the name, maybe it's quality, who the heck knows. But hey, that's what makes me sleep better at night so I'm comfortable dishing out the extra cash for the real thing. I may feel good buying a cheaper version, having saved a bunch of cash....but man, Ican tell you that I wouldn't have all the confidence in the world in that STS. I guess the decision on whether to go authentic or knock-off, in some cases, depends on what kind of guy you are.....good luck with your search and purchase

i agree with the saying 'you get what you pay for', and it tends to be especially true with parts. but the reason why i am so interested in the SRE is because, by reputation, it seems to be a very good shifter. it is steel, for one thing, which puts it way ahead of all the aluminized ones. Many .orgers have had success with it. until i start hearing horror stories about it, i think i'll be content with getting it.

Check out this link: DR-Max's Review. It describes the problems that you might run into with that short throw shifter, particularly post 72 or so.

Whats wrong with the real B&M in the group deal section? Talk to Steve G. He will take care of you for around 120 shipped.

precisely. college > my bank account!!

oh, and Lou. that link with DrMax's review, which shifter was that for? the ebay one that was steel, or the SRE one? i'm not sure.

EDIT: i figured it out. it was that other steel one on ebay. gotcha. i don't want to have to go through with the heating and bending if i don't have to.

B&M owns all. I have mine coupled w/ a Polyurethane bushing from *** and shifting is amazing. Im a poor college student too but this is something that is well worth it IMO; Especially as much as you use it (obviously).
