HID's no projectors no glare

I did an HID retro using the shielded bulb holder assembly from a V70 Volvo. Basically I took apart the Volvo headlights to get the shielded holder, bulb and ballast. The 4th gen headlights needed to be taken apart, the existing shield taken out and the hole for the bulb had to be made larger to accept the Volvo assembly.

The results were a descent set of HID's with no glare and good beam down on the road. A few guys on here have asked for pics so here goes.

First, the shield and D2R bulbs.

Next you install them into the 4th gen housing.

That looks nice. How much did you pick up the V70 headlights for?

The V70 components were free, the car came into my brothers shop totaled.
I took what I needed before the car was taken to the junk yard.
Total cost for this project.... $0.00

nice setup, now I just need to flip my bulb shield inside my reflectors in order to make them face the right way.(had them pointing down, instead of to the top of the reflector.

If you have to go thru the trouble of taking apart the headlights
might as well go with the projectors. I've seen them go as cheap as
$60 for a good pair of used OEM projectors on ebay, more for bi-xenon.

Sort of, I've got a set of 5 speed front springs in my auto. That braught my front end down about 1/3" making the gaps perfectly even at the "stock" ride height. The car rides absolutely awsome and the front gap isn't bad even with 17's on.

Very nice. That's a very low amount of glare for reflectors

looks good tom

i've been thinking doing that for both my car and the tC... even on the tC with newer headlight, the beam pattern still spreads out too much. it's just i don't have too much time doing these kinda project anymore...
