belt ripped, what the...

Hey guys, i looked in my engine bay a couple days ago and was horrified at what i saw. My accessory belt was ripped in half, basically the belt is half the width as normal. I changed my alternator and idler pulley(from Rock Auto) not too long ago. I've also been missing the splash shield that protects the belts for a while now. I inspected the area and everything seemed fine. What would cause this?

Often times it is due to poor pulley alignment. The belt is not traveling straight and starts to tear away at the edge.

It could be that, perhaps the the alternator is off a little. (Not quite straight) Best bet is to try a new belt and check the alignment of evrything after it is installed. Often times you can tell if the belt is tweaked a little bit.
