Installed H&R with Tokiko Illumina
Installed H&R with Tokiko Illumina
Hi all:
I just got my H&R and Tokiko Illuminas installed today.
Previously, I had Eibach and KYB AGX.
A few observations:
Ride height in the front is about the same, but the rear end came up about a half inch. This is good for me, since my eibach springs had some noticeable sag in the rear.
The stiffest setting on the Illumina feels about as firm as the softest setting on the KYB AGX.
Handling seems O.K. Overall, I am happy so far.

eh, can your system adjust dampening 36 ways?
mine can
Ksports rock.
btw thanks for making the comparison for everyone else, I know when I was looking at setups like that I would always like to see comparisons.

If not, what does it matter?

if ur car spends days on the track like mine does that setting can be felt....but the majority of cars wont see track time like some others will
Ride quality is quite good. Well; not Cadillac or comfy Camry good, but not harsh like it was before.
Starting out from a setting of 5 on front and rear, i dropped the settings to 1 front and 3 rear.
It definitely soaks up the imperfections better than the softest setting on KYB AGX. I notice it a lot on the rutted highways around here in the bay area.
Handling balance seems to be about the same as compared to having the Eibach springs.
Squat and dive are about the same as before. But I have Warpspeed Stage-1 SFC, and SFC dramatically reduced the squat and dive.
I am most pleased with the look in the rear. Well, the look in the rear looked good with the Eibach, but unfortunately the front end didn't match.
Rear end now rides about a half-inch higher while the front end is about the same ride height as the Eibach. Not too bad of a look overall. Its not goofy 4X4 looking, but not slammed low either.
On a totally other note, I wonder if anybody could make control arms and mounting with geometry revised to take the roll center back up to stock with aftermarket lowering springs. Would any super suspension experts out there know if it would be possible, feasible, advisable, worth it, etc...?

People have been discussing the roll center thing for ages. They've also been talking about relocating the tie rod ends to reduce bump steer and wandering. No good solutions have come of it yet, though. Ultimately, that kind of thing would be a very niche product with few takers, so companies aren't entirely willing to spend the time and money on developing it.
Of course, people on the .org seem to have no shortage of time, so you never know...

I got the Illuminas off of Ebay for around $465 shipped. The H&R springs I had left over from my previous Maxima.
I would guess if you had to buy Illuminas plus springs, it should run somewhere around $700+ shipped. Then add it around $200 for labor on installation. Then add $50 - $100 for alignment.
I would suggest some Eibach camber bolts -- which you can get for about $20 dollars.
By the time it is all done, you might spend about $1000 for everything installed.
