So I was driving today, and I notice my brake light is on. I haven't used the ebrake in awhile so thats ruled out. Anyone know what else it could be?

Sometimes they come on as a early indication light. Something may be waring down on your brake system. The Brake light isnt only the e-brake but your whole brake system. Just go through the whole brake system. Check for low fluid that sorta thing. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick reply Colin. I was told that my front brakes were low at my last oil change, I just didn't have any time to order some new ones. I didn't know the brake light is for the whole system, thanks.

it could be that or brake fluid had the same problem poured some in and it went away

Its probably low fluid, pour some fluid in if the problem presists after few weeks check for a leaky caliper or one of the break lines, as for break pad running low there is no sensors that would indicate them running low so its something that you have to keep your eye of and it wouldnt cause a break light to go on

i checked and its at the half mark, which IIRC has been at that level for a LONG time...

well if it ****ed lower by little bit then it can triger the break light. btw how are ur breaks how do they feel?

hmm add more fluid see what happens if it goes away then ur problem is solved. But i would check for a leaky caliper especialy the rear once

Only three things cause the brake light to come on - low fluid, e-brake on, and brake system failure.

There are no sensors to see the level of brake pads, no (at least not on our cars, but several luxury makes/models do), but as the pads wear, it requires more brake fluid to push the piston out further to make the pads contact the rotors. This causes less fluid to be contained in the reservoir, eventually triggering the low brake fluid sensor. Just topping it off won't fix anything, and when you change your pads may cause the reservoir to overflow.
