it would give a totally negative effect if you have HID. I have tried it in my 2nd gen after doing the HID retro and it was horrible. THe light was dispersed everywhere. The bulb shield is there for a reason, it prevents glare by controlling where the light comes out. If you do it you will have angry drivers flashing their high beams, and possibly some very unhappy cops writing you a ticket.
