Is my car Cali or Fed spec?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Raise your hood. Look for a shiny metal identification tag fastened to the passenger side of firewall. The top row is the Vehicle Identification Number, starting with J. The second row is model information. The first five characters are BLHUL. The 12th character is the destination:

N = Canada
V = California
U = US, not California

it was in the FAQ'S

You have a big pre cat in your front headder. A ypipe on your car wont make as pig of a difference as the one on my car. You can convert to fed spec, or what ever the other one is and get rid of that cat and then get a ypipe like mine.

Actually I think you want to convert it to cali, I never remember which is which, but basically you want a headder pipe off my car. You will get more gains form a ypipe if you do this so if you think thats worth it then do it. Pulling off the front headder isnt too hard and you can probably get one from like a junk yard or something.

You can get a cali spec y-pipe, but this will eliminate only one of the two pre-cats that the cali spec cars have. Not a big deal, but you will not see as much of a gain as a fed spec y-pipe.

im on the same boat. i got a cali-spec 99se and want a y-pipe but from what i'm learning, isn't really worth it considering the pre-cat up in the header. Irritating.

curiosity, how do you pass emission tests in Cali w/ straight pipe?

No, from Cali to Fed. Think of it as California with the strictest emission laws.
