It still leaks!

I noticed a small puddle of coolant leakage over the last few days. The puddle started with drips from the bottom of the A/C compressor. Just up to the right and above the alternator, I noticed what looked like the source. It looked like it was coming from the area near the water pump (the weep hole). I spent all night replacing the pump with a brand new pump, new seals (cardone from Kragen). The fit was exact, and when I took out the original Nissan pump, the seals did not look damaged...I figured it was good maintenance anyway, but now I have a fully functional water pump (stock) with two brand new seals (I bought an extra set just in case) and I still have a coolant leak.

Where else could it be coming from??? It's definitely originating on the passenger side, somewhere above the oil pan assembly...

 

Check the lower coolant hose connected to the radiator.

 

I already checked all of the radiator components. NG...

 

Here is a question: Does the A/C compressor have coolant running through it? Maybe the leak is in the compressor...???

 

no neither of them do.. check the thermostat housing...

 

I checked that on the inlet side, and their are no leaks...

 

I was able to get a picture of the potential leak location. Any ideas???

it could be the PAG oil lubricating the compressor. The oil kind of looks like anti-freeze but is thicker.

 

Nope, it is definitely antifreeze. The leak is too much, too green, and too sweet-smelling to be anything else. I am sure of it.

 

Wow the fourm have changed a lot it's been years since i've been back here..
I recommend cleaning the area and check for anti freeze again? Now it's been a while but, is that under the valve cover next to the timing cover..

 

Just a suggestion. Take a picture from a different angle. Maybe we would have a better view of the leak spot.

I finally just took it in because the "leak" developed into a pinhole fountain spraying directly into the alternator. Oops...

It was a gasket where the two metal pipes connect to the front of the engine, directly opposing the alternator. I had a feeling it was that gasket, but I thought it was another bolt somewhere else.

Anyway, the shop charged me $340 to fix it. The mechanic said there was too little clearance to remove one of the bolts, and he removed the alternator to get to it.

So if you have a leak, check for gasket leakage before assuming it is the water pump!
