Parking break cable

Hi,

I am replacing old parking brake cable with a new one. In the picture, the parking brake cable connects to the rear caliper in driver's side. It is impossible to unconnect. It is very tight and uncooperative. Anyone can help me out?

Take a punch or screwdriver and hit the lip towards the open side on the U shaped piece holding it in the bracket.

Could the parking brake being locked cause a loud whining noise when in reverse, but in reverse only?

No that clip is often a pain. I hate doing rears for that one reason. Use WD-40 and let it sit 10 mins, then use the punch on the lip and hammer upwards. You gotta hit it hard tho, its a car so dont baby it.
