Tps

if you test the first pin and there is no voltage at all but there is ohm restance between pins 2 and 3 and they go up in the range that they are supost to is it still bad?

Not sure, but I think to read the voltage you should turn the ignition key to acc. position.

I think there should be approximately 5V between the harness connector terminal 1 (not the TPS pin 1) and an engine ground. You do not probe the TPS but the harness connector - it's the one supplying power to TPS.

then how do you test the tps? just by the ohm resistance?

Just wondering--are you getting an error code for your TPS sensor? I am trying to get that sensor changed in the meantime, I keep getting an error code (CEL)--so I think this is about time that it goes.

Try this http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/tps.html

Also, you can get the FSM at
http://www.phatg20.net/modules.php?n...ownload&cid=73
It contains detailed TPS check procedure

I have the same exact problem. What are your symptoms?

Mine is on idle at 750 rpm, and then 450-500 rpm when braking.

Your problem is most likely not the TPS but the IACV. It may need cleaning and you may also need to adjust the idle. Also, check the IACV and intake hoses for air leaks.

i have said in posts before that my IACV checks out fine. I can adjust the idle to where it needs to be with the tps unplugged. then when i plug the tps back in and start the car it jumps back up. the idle will stay where i want it as long as the tps is not connected. thats why i dont belive its that. plus i have tried 2 iacv's and have tested them both and they both were in working order.

Follow the directions on here. http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/tps.html If you cant get the aquired reading by "adjusting the TPS" then youll have to replace it.

If you dont get a reading form the first pin, I believe its still bad. That means its not getting a signal from the ECU to the TPS.

it says connect it to pin 1 not connect it to the harness so im pretty sure my tps is bad because it has 0 volts there.

It's the connector. If you read the diagram carefully in the Nissan FSM, you get a X, one filled and one not. That shows the difference between the unit and the connector.
